FINALLY got a blue roan heifer calf here to keep and breed!

3/4 Shorthorn, 1/4 Angus... not too shabby for a couple hour old calf, IMO.

Pedigree is stacked with SP visitors!

Attached is a picture of a Diamond Prophecy 21P bull calf out of a 7 year old Diamond Captain Mark 27C daughter.  His full sister is pictured earlier on this thread but I have reattached her.  Below is their dam

I agree TGCC, that Zulu calf sure looks like a bull already!
Here is the bottom heifer last Sunday. It was pretty hot so she wasn't in the mood for posing!

Nice calf. Already looks like a bull.

Yes he sure does, but better in person. Cant remember all the good ones I saw. Still think the one needs steered but they have a bull a bull market so they saw he stays intact. Go figure.

Now that is a good Shorthorn!  Like the muscling as well as the slick coat.  In my book, this is as close to ideal as can be, hindquarter shaped like a good ham!  Obviously holds his condition well too.  Good luck with him!
Here is a new photo of one of the Wentworth calves at Circle M. He is out of a daughter of Diamond Real Legend 22R.

Mmmm....  Nice hindquarter, unfortunately looks too straight/posty in the hocks for me!  His scrotum size is not great, unless he is a steer.

Sorry, don't mean to be mean, but I don't like this animal much at all.  Should make some good steaks though!

I have not seen this calf, he is about 12 hours away but he does look posty in the hind legs. I'm not sure about his scrotal size as he is not quite 6 months old yet. I prefer some of his sibs better, especially in color!

Another Prophecy 21P daughter Diamond Xotic Candy 25X born April 11 2010.  All the Prophecy daughters calved at 23 months or under and their calves were unassisted.

the video is of her this year at 26 months, she is currently raising a lovely March heifer calf

I CALL BS TO BEING ONLY 5.5 MONTHS OLD...  UNLESS YOU ARE USING JOHN SULLIVAN'S CALENDAR (clapping)

That's the best one I have read on here in a while. I thought it was a 1200 lb fat steer the first time I looked at the photo. I would in no way be interested in cattle that look like this. Super harsh in his appearance and completely unsound in his structure.  He and Prophecy sure throw completely different types!
Actually Wiseguy I do not appreciate being called a liar on a public forum or to my face for that matter.(especially by the likes of Jody Kabat) The bull (3W) was shipped to Circle M Shorthorns the end of March 2011 meaning that the bull calf was born January 2012. I register my own calves with the correct dates, the correct birth weights and I don't misrepresent them. It doesn't bother me if people make criticisms and state their preferences but when someone who doesn't even practice humane husbandry calls me a liar I really don't appreciate it! As seen below a post by feed grass (Jody Kabat) luckily it was quoted as it was removed on the thread.  After posting what is below Jody talked about buying semen from a bull that the owner specifically stated calves needed help.  I just don't understand why people give this guy any credibility what so ever.

I missed the angus part. But I will tell you this the heifer is a Sonny x Mona Lisa NEITHER of those bloodlines are easy calving. The section we did two weeks ago was on an Asset bred heifer . Sounds like Asset is pretty closely linked to C- Sections...

You didn't answer my previous question on how c-sections YOU have done on your Cattle. I personally have performed 5 C-Sections... Each ended with a bullet to the skull of the female-- to A: do away with that bloodline, and B: give me a good reason not to "try" her again.  Our vet came out and told us he's never saved an animal doing a C- Section- doesn't have enough experience with it, and doesn't do it often enough.  So we figured for the price we would pay him to do the work, and get a dead mama-- we could do it ourselves.

This calf ended up killing herself.  I was breaking her to lead, and not making much for progress= was into the deal a week or two.  She got spooked, which wasn't all that odd since blowing leaves would scare a terd out of her-- and she ended up dragging me across the lot-- where she spun around right into a pile of tin that we were in the process of using to build a new shed- and cut her tendon on the back leg to the bone...  We ended up shooting and butchering her within 10 min.  never seen an animal loose so much blood so fast.

Another example where his incompetence was paid for by the calf. Whats that 6 head he has admitted to having to kill? Great management skills. Please Jody post more of your wisdom.

Okotoks, I apologize for the way the post came across. I meant no offense to your post of the animal. I thought Jody's post was humorous in regards to the statement. I know that you were not lying. I find many of the comments on here to be funny.  That is one of the things that I don't like about this forum or the internet for that matter is the tone in which we mean things is often taken out of text. I will try and post my thoughts more specifically next time.

Wow...frostie.....I think you and dear ole dad need to take a breath. (angel)

Ok AJ I know you don't believe in animal abuse as per this and other posts. So why does it make it right to be buddies with someone who does just because it is a public forum? Being the forum class clown doesn't justify it.

In the court of law you need the necropsy. A vets opinion is not good enough. You can have photos of dead cattle. You can have 15 neighbors testify and its not real impressive cause the courts love experts. If there is a problem in your area I don't think it hurts to do an official phone call to the sheriffs. Again if its not done to the law inforcement office its not official....not on record. This type stuff needs stopped to not hurt the beef industry in general. In some ways if wildlife dies because its mother was killed in my opinion that is a mother nature deal. Coyotes rip the heads off kitty cats and rabbits everyday. But if you pen something up and prevent it from having a fighting chance....to me that is a cowardly act.

I can guarantee you that if Bob and Cindy Merkeley, owners of Circle M, had a calf born on December 31st, it would be registered as being born on December 31st. They just don't make people more honest than they are. If they say this calf is a January calf, I do not question it. I have been to Circle M on several occasions and I will guarantee the calves always look great, and they are given every chance to grow. There is no question in my mind that this calf is represented correctly. As for the crest and mascunity this calf shows, his sire also showed this at a very early age. Just because some people have cattle that don't look like your's doesn't make these people dishonest.
