Lautner catalog has the clone to Ali for 25 straw in his new catalog. There are additional Heat Wave clones numbers 10 and 11. You all probably seen it.

looked good. I'm sure there will be a lot that use him to replace the original.

I kinda like that Heatwave 6 bull. Do the clones breed anything like the original?

Exactly like the original.

Dusty,  now you know that us idiots disagree with that statement and Knabe has tried to explain that they do not breed the same more than once.

Is there much of the original Ali semen available? I couldn't get any from ABS more than a year & a half ago.

Huh. I'd heard that they didn't.

Flush the same cow twice.  Once to the original and once to the clone.

I would bet anybody that they can't pick the calves apart at weaning.

It doesn't matter, a good one is a good one. They'll mostly be called Heat Wave's anyway.
  Help Knabe.

Just thought, Knabe, are you busy crunching #s figuring us out the real odds for TH/PHA positive calves? When you get time, please educate Dusty again about the clones breeding exactly the same. LOL. Good Luck. Brent

my ag teacher worked with a company that took yeild 1 prime steers (after slaughter evaulation) and cloned them.  He said the bulls should be producing calves now.  He hasnt kept up on it because he doesnt work with that company now but it would be interesting to see what those bulls do and how the calves perform.

I agree that the clones won't have the exact same DNA.  However I firmly believe that they will breed the same.

How wouldn't they have the same DNA?...I actually could see how they would breed different because there probably not raised the same way the donor bull was...I'm just trying to figure this all out.

or would they not have the same DNA because they weren't raised in the "same environment" as the donor bull?

the DNA of an animal is set at conception.  Environment has nothing to do with it.
By definition a clone is genetically identical to the original.
Whether that clone will breed 'as well as' or 'the same as' the original is another issue.  If you breed the same cow to the same bull for 5 years in a row it is not reasonable to think that all 5 caves will be identical.  They may be very similar but definitely not identical.  I think the same can be said for cloned cattle.  If you breed a cow to a bull one year and the breed her to that bulls clone the next year, you should expect a calf that is similar but not identical.

I guess I'll say it being nobody else will---how damn many Heat Waves does the industry need??  I know they're for terminal crosses for the most part, but isn't enough, enough!!
