Hello,

I'm wondering what temperature you should have a cool room. What seems to be the "magic number" where the calves are most comfortable. I hear some people say 65, others 40.

We always just wanted it to be in the 60s.We are in Texas so as long as it wasnt 100 we were really happy sometimes. Our main goal though is to have it dark and have as much air moving as possible.

Think of how cool 74 degrees AC house feels when it is hot outside.  20 degrees lower than outside temp is a good target.  But if you aren't rinsing at least 1x/day, preferably 2x or more, brushing, blowing, conditioning, and have good genetics, a cool room won't add much.

The Univ. of Nebraska did a study that found cattle seek out 41 degrees F as the optimal temperature. However it can get really expensive to try and keep that temperature unless you have a cave. Air movement and mist foggers really help as well as keeping it dark.

Good luck.
