Just got the Nance County Fair completed last week here in Nebraska .  Thought I'd give a report.

Our fair is pretty small, with around 35 market animals and another 35 to 40 breeding animals.

My son, Tres,  is 9, so this is his second year showing.  He's out there every step of the process with me; selecting calves, breaking, feed, blowing, clipping, etc.  He works his behind off to do well.

Day started with Jr. Showmanship.  10 kids in the class; my guy was second youngest.  His heifer looked good and showed like a dream.  I don't think he used the stick on her once, just walking her into place!  He and the judge had a chuckle when he answered questions...not sure what he said, but the little dude is quite witty....He told his uncle that when the judge came with questions, he was gonna pull his phone out of his pocket and say "hold on a second, I gotta take this call"...  Champion Jr. Showman.

Next was his market heifer, a Heatwave 5.  This heifer is not easy to work with.  Not wild, just very, very obstinate.  He won his class, but stood in the overall drive.  Did as well as he could've with her.

His steer was next.  This was a Heatwave 5 that he picked out from a family friend for $100 over market price.  He even got his own loan on the calf.  Steer looked really good, great hair, 1280#...won his class of 5 head.  He had to work a little showing him, but got him set perfect in the final drive...Reserve Grand.

3rd class was a New Trend Way Cool 3/4 Simmy that he showed commercial so he didn't have to show against his PB Simmy.  She will  be a great cow, but probably wasn't made to be a show heifer.  Biggest class of the day (9 head), but he got out-horsed by 3 chi-maine heifers.  4th in class, bottom purple.

Simmy division.  He showed a Triple C Bettis that we raised...she was also his showmanship heifer.  She won the class, simmy show, and ended up Reserve Supreme to the the Chi-Maine heifer.  An excellent day.

Todl him they won't all be like this.  I'll see if I can add some pictures later. :)

Absolutely awesome report Dad!  That is great!  Really good deal on the win, but anymore I think I enjoy knowing the amount of time that goes into a set Of calves pays off BIG!  You guys gonna make a jog down to the AR?

Coach...

Not sure if we'll have anything down there this year...if not, probably won't make it.  I'll keep you posted if we head that way.

Have a good one.
