County Fair thoughts- Maines and Mainetainers?

So my county fair is like many and it is set up a little odd.

Due to numbers we have three breeds that show.  Angus, Herfs, AOB, and a market heifer class.  This leads to some interesting AOB classes where we have had Gerts show against Simmentals, however that is the way it is very little chance in changing it.

The rumor is for the first time we are going to have some Maines and possibly Mainetainers show up at the county fair this July.

I have never paid much attention to either breed other than you don't need much Maine to be a registered Mainetainer.

How do most shows (county, state, even national) judge these classes?  Do they combine Maine's and Mainetainers?  Do they consider Mainetainers as a breed?  Just curious how it normally works.  Trying to piece through the Illinois State Fair rule book it appears that they show Maines and Mainetainers together, but I am not sure.

our county fair requires Maines to be 3/4. The rest show as AOB's or crossbreeds. a lot of shows have both classes. Some combine them all into AOB bepending on numbers. To be a Mainetainer you have to be 1/4 Maine.

Our county throws all the mainetainers/maines together. All Appendix Shorthorn & Shorthorn show together. Gelbieve & Balancers “<I think that’s what they call the crossed up Gelbieve” There must be 3 of a breed or you go into the AOB class. Funny thing was two years ago there was only one fullblood Angus on grounds so she had to show as a AOB while several angus crosses were getting to show in other breed classes. 

Our county shows like yours does and Maine and Maintainer both show as AOB.  At the bigger shows it all depends on numbers, there is a Maine class where you have to be 3/4 and if numbers justify they also have a Maintainer class if not they show as AOB, the Maintainers would not ever show in a "Maine" class.

At a majority of our shows, the Gelbvieh show seperately from the Balancers. If you don't have 5 head in the breed, you end up in the AOB class. Balancers or any other cross (SimmAngus, LimFlex, Optimizers, etc) typically end up in the AOB or commercial classes.

Nobody around here that I know about raises maine anjous or mainetainers but if they did they'd show in the AOB class. Most shows around here have classes for angus, hereford, charolais, simmental, AOB, and commerical. At one show I go to, they make a new class if there are more than 5 head of the particular breed there. So if 5 maine anjous would happen to show up, they'd get their own show.
