I have not been on steerplanet in months, so I am sorry if I have missed a recent post that may answer this question...I live in Missouri. Weigh-in date for market steers/market heifers is in 1 and a half weeks- February 8th. We have some nice steers, but they just aren't big enough. We didn't get them on feed fast enough due to some family injuries that decreased our work force! My husband is still relatively unfamiliar with the show business, so most of the duties fall on me, including breaking the calves. However, I had knee surgery in December. I have physical therapy 3 times a week. It will be March/April before the doctor releases me to go back to work. He has recommended that I NOT break any calves this year, and I don't think that my husband has the time to do it.
SO...I am in desperate need of some county fair steers or market heifers. I have 13-year-old twins and a 10-year-old, so I need 3 of them. We will probably only show at about 3 or 4 shows, so I am not really looking for something to win the State Fair, but something that could do well at a small county fair. It is not necessary that we win (because there are one or two families that either have connections and/or spend big bucks to win...and they usually do) BUT I don't want to be last in the class either (first or second would be nice). I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on any one calf (because we need 3). Because of my knee injury and recent surgery, it would be nice if the calves were fairly tame and at least partially broke! Our 4-H fair is in mid-July. I live in Northeast Missouri.
Also-we are always on the lookout for any used equipment in good condition, such as a chute, a blower, a showbox, stall dividers, etc.
