Well Sue    We have a picture of Bob Duis bull you named DF Dallas.  He is Vegas out of the Dottie.  His Calves should be very interesting.

<party> <party>  Holly SH__ he looks awesome! My mother loves white- if he is clean we will scarifice a red female and make mom happy. Let me know if semen is on the open market? Ok I feel like a winner now. Thanks Mitch for the feed back- maybe I will see you @ Bob's sale?

I pictured this bull the other day at Bob's and it was so hot and humid you could not hardly be outside.  For what my opinion is worth, I think this could easily be the best bull Bob has produced at his place.  At this young age, his potential is unlimited to me.  Just thought this one was really good.

Buying the Dottie cow for Bob Duis, was probably one of the best pieces of business the late Mike Dugdale ever did. She has been a monumental donor and mother cow for Bob and her sons have all went on to become excellent herd bulls. Does anyone know if Dallas has been TH tested yet?

The bull I just sent to buckeye in Ohio is also out of a Dottie female. This is another cow family in the breed that has produced for generations, and is another reason why I am such a strong believer in maintaining cow families in any breed.

Bob has had one of the few sales in the last few years I have paid any attention simply for the fact he invested in cows and not the same old shit?
Some and ya'll know this happens in all of the breeds... get 5 to 10 catalogs that look identical... boring. If a breed of any moves KIND wants to move forward it has to stem from fore sight and the the opposite.
Yep we have all seen VEGAS but that ole dottie has been at BOB'S for awhile. On a second note as a breeder... If you see a bull from that operation sold the following year he "the Bob' has calves in his sale. This neve happens- I bet you dont see the current National Champion Offspring's in any sale this fall???
As a breeder and NOT a mulitilplier this is why you should be in the seed stock business. No I did say this is a calving ease commerical bull operation but a place either a old fart  could find  a real breeding piece for his spoiled grand kid or a kid that needs a show winner.
So if you are a follower and not a leader save yourself a stamp and  DO not send me a catalog.
Go Dallas <party>

The current national champion won't have any offspring this year for sale? I'm shocked.
I for one respect the breeder who builds their own herd by generations of proven cow families and sons from those families. Breeders who constantly bring in new bulls because he is hot is a recipe for a trainwreck. When I research a breeder and they got bulls from all over and offer something for everyone, then they are like a used car salesman not a breeder. I am going to stick with what I have found to work for me and build from there. I said something awhile back about how boring shorthorn catalogs were these days and I got told that is just the way it is. Always has been. Not for me thanks. Groundhog Day was a funny movie but when it is really happening in front of you, then it gets annoying. Change will come from us, the little people, when we demand it.

Just sent steers to the butcher, 7026 son on red angus. Minimum input. Grass finished (no grain last 4 months and 4 lbs per day during the winter). At 13 months they averaged 1150 and dressed out at 661 lbs avg. Sold for 1,400 a head, they pay processing. Who says shorthorns can't get it done. Funny no national champion genetics in there. Maybe not the most impressive results I'm sure, but works for me!

WIsh I could see a larger picture. I have tried to blow it up but loose resolution. My eyes aren't what they use to be.

Sue,  I have good news and maybe bad news. Dallas's blood work came back this week.  He is PHAF but THC.  When a calf is that stout, good fronted and hairy there is a chance he is not clean.  Dallas still has a place if you use him right. Dallas maybe the best  bull out there when you take into account breeding, comformation and everything else it take to produce a good one except the THC.

When Sue talks about breeders Bob has bred some good bulls.  DF Vegas, DF Sundowner, who had the Champion Heifer at the Iowa Shorthorn Field Day last week,  DF Tuscaloosa, who has sired some really nice heifer calves and his calves have not been big, DF Waco, who I really like and am using on every thing I can, and know DF Dallas.
This is a bull line that I would have  been proud to have raised just one of them.

Need to tell a short story about DF Waco.    My son and I stopped to see him last weekend and as we walked thur the barn at Nichols most of the bulls were pawing or snorthing as we walked past.  Waco was at the far end.  When we got to him he came up to the gate and tried to lick us. He wanted to be patted. We scratched him behind the ear and I thought is was going to purr like a cat.  WHAT a disposition. That in it self is worth the price of semen.

Hey Mitch, ole Tuscaloosa is kinda like that too. When I was helping them get ready for their sale a couple years ago and he was a yearling, he loved getting bathed and brushed. I had never seen a bull act like him on the washrack...I imagine he would be the type to like to stand under waterfalls in the jungle.

Sue,  Just talked to Bob.  He knows you are not a fan of a carrier bull.  So he is willing to trade you the DF Dallas semen for either DF Sundowner or DF Tuscaloosa or a combination of both.  He will also bring it to the Shorthorn Junior National.  Just let him know and we will do what ever you want.

He was on display in Denver under the name DF Cloud Nine. I thought he looked great but I'm biased. I do not like the fact he is a TH carrier.
