I was searching through my pictures and I found last year's herd tour photos from Northern Shorthorns.  In that pasture they had 2 Prophecy cows.  I posted the first one in my first post (RWM)  The second cow is the dam of one of the heifer calves I purchased last summer that I am incredibly pleased with.  She is photographed at 6

Thank you for the pics they look really good. I  am looking for bull to use next year and can't decide between prophecy or the dover bull. Wish I had more cows and I d use both.

Never seen prophecy before. I saw Dover this summer in Indiana. He is a older bull as well. Real nice head on him. Great feet. Deep. His daughters were pretty cool. I'd say prophecy is the more growthy then Dover from all I can gather. Id say if you want bulls to sell or calves to finish use prophecy. If you want very maternal cattle, use Dover. I'd think a Dover daughter bred to prophecy could work. Prophecy seems to be the outlier of his pedigree. Dover is well, not a outlier. His is kinda middle of the road on everything. I like that. Both bulls are a good choice to try

Both the sire of Prophecy 21P and Dover are former herd sires at Y Lazy Y! I believe Ralph still has daughters and granddaughters of both in his cow herd. As has been pointed out by a few, Prophecy himself is a lot lower birth weight and calving ease than his sire. His EPD's actually reflect how he breeds in our herd, almost always our cows have lighter birth weight calves by Prophecy than they do by the other bulls that we use. I will be interested to see how he works with some other bloodlines but I'm pretty confident he is a calving ease bull. It would appear through the wonderful world of genetics that he has  inherited the genes for calving ease as well as passes them on and that was very evident when we calved our two year old Prophecy heifers this spring.
I will actually be interested to see where Glenford Captain 39X's EPDs trend as his calves have been very similar in size to Prophecy but with his EPD's before having progeny by him I did not expect that.
I consider Prophecy a maternal bull in our herd. His daughters are smaller framed in our herd. They have good udders, calve unassisted and have really good thrifty calves at side. I know Ralph has had excellent results from Dover as well and the photos of his daughters are awesome.
On the subject of EPD's, we find in our herd they pretty much reflect what we are seeing for BW, WW, YW and milk. I have to say the milk I find a bit surprising but I guess the formulas usually sort the growth from extra size from milk? We have also been able to follow some of our bloodlines through results in Britain with EPD's and in Australia and New Zealand with EBV's and we see the same trends. I know with some well known bulls there is not a lot correlation between the two systems and I am not sure why that is.

love him. thanks for posting a really good sh bull.

What do you think he weighs, is he a 5 yr old?

Glad you like him. He is a six year old. Probably weighs about 2250 to 2300 as he is pretty deep and wide but not a big frame.(need to measure him but probably a 6)
Prophecy was 55 inches (frame 5) at the hip at 8 years of age and 2200lbs. Just noticed I never updated my reply to your comment!

Middle of the road? Top 2% for CE Top 1% for WW Top 2% for YW  Top 2% for $F Top 1% for $BMI

Have you seen the bull? His offspring? I have. It's my opinion. I'll say it again. ASA epd's are bunk. I take it all with a grain of salt. I can't see this bull being a high growth bull. A female maker with adequate growth, yes. It's just my opinion.

Not only have I seen them, I have a Dover son.  1650lbs at 2 yrd old and out of a pretty moderate JR Adelaide cow.

Im hesitant to believe all the ASA epds too but I thoughts programs like DRC and bulls that have Dovers's acc were pretty reliable as far as #s go...? No?

I think you are right. I don’t believe that a lot of the Dover Ranch cattle have been entered in the ASA system since they don’t really register very many. However the ones that have been registered like Dover have been used in programs where collecting and submitting the data occurs as a regular part of the program. (like A&T and Y Lazy Y). I think that there is a lot of validity to the Dover cattle’s EPD’s because of this.

I have added a photo of a Prophecy 21P grandson born March 11 and photographed Sept. 2. His dam is the 36X two year old earlier in this thread.
