Can you use DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide) the liquid on cattle to reduce swelling of joints that will be marketed as meat later? Does it affect the meat at all?

The only DMSO that I have ever used was Topical and I see no withdrawl date or any warnings about any residue. So I would not think it would bother meat. I am sure there are several others on SP that have much more experience with the product than I do. But I believe it is a none issue. I know about a year ago there was a good thread about it on here so you might try a search.

I've also used the topical kind, but it's been a long time ago. I'm not sure what might have changed since then in terms of product labeling or available new versions.

Legally - no. DMSO is considered a drug and as a drug (medicinal grade is approved for use in horses) it is not approved for use in cattle. To be used in cattle you would need to have a VCPR (vet-client -patient -relationship) and it would need to follow ELDU and AMDUCA. It smells like garlic and that would be absorbed as well as almost anything on the hide. Using non medicinal grade DMSO would be a no no as all that crud in it could also be absorbed - don't shoot the messenger
