Recieved this email in a bulk email list from a SP member who I have always had a lot of time for and has given me some good advice over time but this is I feel a bit sus. ???

I really hope you get this fast. I could not inform anyone about our trip, because it was impromptu. we had to be in Manila  Philippines for a program. The program was successful, but our journey has turned sour. we misplaced our wallet and cell phone on our way back to the hotel we lodge in after we went for sight seeing. The wallet contained all the valuables we had. Now, our passport is in custody of the hotel management pending when we make payment.

I am sorry if i am inconveniencing you, but i have only very few people to run to now. i will be indeed very grateful if i can get a loan of $1,850 USD from you. this will enable me sort our hotel bills and get my sorry self back home. I will really appreciate whatever you can afford in assisting me with. I promise to refund it in full as soon as I return. let me know if you can be of any assistance. Please, let me know soonest. Thanks so much..

What do you think ?

I got one very, very similar to that awhile back.  Supposedly from someone I had seen earlier that day - needless to say they weren't in Manila...

I'd try to help out anyone I know that has a legitimate problem if I could, but I don't think this is legitimate.

Common con, someone hijacked his email and address list and is hoping someone is gullible.  Been around for years.

I got one of these a few years back. Somehow they get into your computer and get the e-mail address deal or something.

Please inform the member that it has occured so he/she can try and clean up the cpu, etc.

Yep, I get these quite a bit.  An individual gets their email account hacked and the hacker sends a message to everyone in their contact list.

Usually happens because an individual enters their password on a phishing site.
