Lot 5 interest me. I am using some Gus this year and am hoping for possible clean up/herd bull if I can get one to cut the mustard. Very small herd still got be reasonable with my goals but I would be happier than pig in poop if I got one with his qualifications.

Anybody go to Jungels this weekend for the open house to see the bulls?

Seeing as how #21 will be a crowd favorite, as well as a sought-after bull, and rightfully so, due to his depth of body and fleshing ease, my pick would be #15...........even if he has a black nose, eyes, and what-not. He looks like one of the slicker-haired bulls being offered, and travels and moves well in the video. He'd put a lot of meat in a set of calves.

Three other "sleepers" would be #46 in the Purebred Bulls ( due to being horned), and 55 & 56 in the "plus" bulls.

He has a lower $CEZ number, but, I can't seehow that could be, with his BW and EPD Profile.

While I've been drooling over 21 since the first day catalog came out, I guarantee you he won't be one if the more 'desirable' bulls in terms of $$ come sale day.   Too many 'desirable' choke necked bulls selling for 21 to go much more than sell average.  Just my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall below sale avg.   He is by far the beefiest bull and the commercial man should be all over him.  His down fall for the commercial man might be even though he's red, I see him still throwing a lot of color.

Last year I walked through the jungles pen, I thought he was known as a functional breeder of bulls. I have to be honest, what I seen floored me. A bunch of small framed clubby looking yearlings with absolutely no performance. When your fat as a tick and struggling to have a 1000lbs yearling weight u have a problem. They looked like a club calf breeders pen. Then there was a group of fall bulls that had no muscle and carried  a ton of fat. Nothing against u shorty guys but I  couldnt  see any commercial good in that set of bulls. What exactly do the shorthorn breeders think works on all the angus cross females in the country side ?

Many, many good bulls.  Most of us would be proud to produce 50 bulls of this quality.  However, lot 21 would not be one of my picks.  In fact, I immediately selected him as one I didn't care for.  Other than his depth, I don't see much that I like.  Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder as I noticed many of you picked him as one of your favorites.  Is it any wonder there is so much complaining about cattle show judges?  I guess the nation's cow herd will never be very uniform.  There are those that still like the white Chi's, those that like Lowlines, and everything in between.  Nothing wrong with that.

But if you're selecting for functional characteristics, 21 has to be at the top of your list.

I hope the sale goes really well.  These sales have def helped promote the breed here in the US.  There are next too no shorthorn breeders (in the US) willing to put up the capital required to pull Off a venture of this size and scale.  Lots 27 and 31 would be my pick (assuming they had a moderate frame).

Can someone post a pic of Colonel Gus and tell a little more about him?

Also, here's a piece of trivia...at this moment the sale bull with the most views on youtube is lot 23...the white bull  <beer>
