Seeing as how #21 will be a crowd favorite, as well as a sought-after bull, and rightfully so, due to his depth of body and fleshing ease, my pick would be #15...........even if he has a black nose, eyes, and what-not. He looks like one of the slicker-haired bulls being offered, and travels and moves well in the video. He'd put a lot of meat in a set of calves.

Three other "sleepers" would be #46 in the Purebred Bulls ( due to being horned), and 55 & 56 in the "plus" bulls.

While I've been drooling over 21 since the first day catalog came out, I guarantee you he won't be one if the more 'desirable' bulls in terms of $$ come sale day.  Too many 'desirable' choke necked bulls selling for 21 to go much more than sell average.  Just my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall below sale avg.  He is by far the beefiest bull and the commercial man should be all over him.  His down fall for the commercial man might be even though he's red, I see him still throwing a lot of color.

Last year I walked through the jungles pen, I thought he was known as a functional breeder of bulls. I have to be honest, what I seen floored me. A bunch of small framed clubby looking yearlings with absolutely no performance. When your fat as a tick and struggling to have a 1000lbs yearling weight u have a problem. They looked like a club calf breeders pen. Then there was a group of fall bulls that had no muscle and carried  a ton of fat. Nothing against u shorty guys but I  couldnt  see any commercial good in that set of bulls. What exactly do the shorthorn breeders think works on all the angus cross females in the country side ?

Many, many good bulls.  Most of us would be proud to produce 50 bulls of this quality.  However, lot 21 would not be one of my picks.  In fact, I immediately selected him as one I didn't care for.  Other than his depth, I don't see much that I like.  Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder as I noticed many of you picked him as one of your favorites.  Is it any wonder there is so much complaining about cattle show judges?  I guess the nation's cow herd will never be very uniform.  There are those that still like the white Chi's, those that like Lowlines, and everything in between.  Nothing wrong with that.

I hope the sale goes really well.  These sales have def helped promote the breed here in the US.  There are next too no shorthorn breeders (in the US) willing to put up the capital required to pull Off a venture of this size and scale.  Lots 27 and 31 would be my pick (assuming they had a moderate frame).

Can someone post a pic of Colonel Gus and tell a little more about him?

Also, here's a piece of trivia...at this moment the sale bull with the most views on youtube is lot 23...the white bull  <beer>

My function around home is management of the cattle.  If I have to scoop the poop, I better like to look at the pooper.  I would rather look at other bulls than 21.  I can see why people might like him, I just don't.  I'll watch the video and if I change my mind, I'll let you know.

Just watched the video.  Too much sheath and not enough eye appeal for my tastes.  I can see where he might add some valuable traits to a commercial herd, though.

That is the white bull with the dark pigment?  He looks very interesting to me, I think he could make a great set of blue roans females.  If I was smart I would use a white bull to clean up all of my spotted cattle.  But I have never been accussed of being overly intelegent.

Your not the first person to say this. It seems when breeders swing the pendulem it just can't find the middle. Hog fat bulls do nobody any good.

Question for the shorthorn people.  Why does there seem to be a bias against all white shorthorn cattle on here? I personally like 23 and 33 as well as anything in the catalog maybe I'm wrong.

What exactly do the shorthorn breeders think works on all the angus cross females in the country side ?/// I havent been to Denver since 2007-and I saw what I think were thier first Jazz bulls at that time-to me YOUR ASSESMENT IS ON THE MONEY.-The good one ADDICTION-with the real performance went to Canada-All I see are cool looking fed to hell bulls with BWS in the 90s-and yearling wieghts under 1100 -and thats a tough grid to present against other breeds:although "other breeds" probably wieghed more at birth. Right now-it is what it is: I prefer thier phenotype to some of the OBVIOUSLY more dual-looking wound up GOLD bulls-who go back to Ayatollah so many times-AND LOOK IT-but the spreads between bws-weaning and yearling-are suspect because of feed-it isnt real world conversion;in fact: it seems like tha real performers for Jungels every year are out of Angus cows:eek:r Angus bulls or x-breds-JMO. Because 100% of their calves will be white or roan.
