I owned the eskimo leggs bull and I can tell you some about him. He was born to a Diamond Legs/Gizmo/Dazzler Cow. I raised 4 generations of his blood and had him collected because of his predictablity for calving ease, style and the maternal strenth behind him. I have used alot of the top bulls for years and have had varying results. Right now I have 4 of his daughters in my herd and have just bred a Naughty Pine daughter and a Who made Who daughter to him for their first calves. He works nice on Heat Wave, Angus and Simmy females. We have raised steers from him that feed great and many have got in the 1400 lb range with a smooth make up. He will put some straight legs on them but they move out well. Cows are of Medium to smaller side, I had problems for years finding a calving ease shorthorn bull and that is the main reason I have him in the tank.

I have a few shorthorn heifers none of which have had calves so I am looking for one that will be calving ease but throw nice babies mixed with these girls. He seems like a nice bull and would do well bred to at least one of my girls for sure.

He has thrown county Fair Champions and Reserve Champions. I had a heifer that was reserve appendix heifer at world beef a couple of years ago. Also have had a couple we showed at Badger Kickoff. Calves are stylish competitors that seem to stay in the herd. Last year I had 4 heifers that I kept. Two were Eskimo Leggs and a Salute and a Star Power. The Salute and Star Power culled themselves and the two Eskimo Leggs had real nice Rodman (Angus) calves and are bred back to I-80. Keep in touch if you use him. I live up towards Green Bay and like to see the calves he throws.
Good Luck,
Scott

Good Luck with your heifer and your calf. Attached is a picture of a first calf heifer out of Eskimo Leggs and a Who Made Who Cow. The calf is a Rodman (Angus) Heifer calf. My name is Scott Vanden Heuvel and I have a few crossbreds now. Some Simmy, Maine, Chi, Angus and Shorty Blood. I used to raise Shorthorn and Angus and as my boys got older and other interests I just raise a few calves for my nephew to show. I am located up towards Green Bay.

had to mention your ist calver a couple notches up on the SHORTHORNS thread-and the continuous discourse over non commercial use. How many purebred 1st calf hiefers OF ANY breed look like that nursing a calf almost as big as she is? Hats off-I have to say the black influence put the desired growth curve along with CE etc into that pair. The only Shorts I see that look like that-and create that kind of size-have maine in them. Don't mean to take over LittleHeifers thread but I will give you some info. Calves are not born early and the bulls have been from 70-75 lbs. The biggest one that I ever had was a 90lb Bull calf out of a simmy cow. She went two weeks over and was a real big Arapahoe cow. He grew like a weed and weighed in at 900lbs in November from a March calving date. Heifers are about the sameweight but more feminine in build. Calves are real nice fronted with a smooth shoulder. We have used him alot on black cattle with great results. I beleive he is a real curve bender from Birth to finish weights and the cattle are smooth made. Most have great attitudes. His heifers have been able to raise a calf and breed back AI after 60 days. I never have felt obligated to use him because he is in the tank but his calves have always drawn attention at my place and we did breed a couple of nice heifers to him this year. They are a Who Made Who x Simmy and a Naughty Pine x Maine. Both were showed this last year and I am looking forward to some February calves. Attached is the first calf I had out of him and a first calf Simmy Heifer. She was 70lbs when born. One thing I have never mentioned is that when the picture of Eskimo Leggs was take he had bred aroung 30 cows that year and was sent down to Missouri to be collected. He still held nice condition and was an agressive breeder.

He and she threw the prettiest bull calf, sadly though for things outside our control she threw the calf a month and a half early and the calf did not survive. we wanted to breed back to him but genex isnt carrying him this year. and don't worry about it thanks for the info. If they carry him again I will be using him

Well older cows always have more volume.........so just because she has a lot more volume now doesnt mean she is going to pass it on in her offspring? how old was she in the picture?

Around a year I think I'm not quite sure I will have to look back at when it was taken. She's always had alot of volume she just has more now.
