Clipping the tail head out is first. We make ours come to a point. (My father does because I cant seem to get it right). Then when it comes show time, just adhesive it to hold. If clipped out right, you shouldnt have to clip much off. Use tail adhesive, then white touch up, and finish off with finisher then you should be good to go!

Yes. Spray a light coat on it. Let sit for about 5 minutes then cover with black finisher. It adds a fuller look. Use it on the legs when pulling them up to. Just make sure its all covered if you have black calves.

That is honestly something I cannot explain to you. I have tried numerous times and failed. (Hints the reason my father does it.) If you can find someone who is experienced that can show you.

Any tips on fitting tail heads?

Fitting a tail head is difficult for me as well. It is very dependant on how much hair your calf has and what shape the hip is as well. Some calves have enought hip you can clip it down and it will make the hip appear more level and wider. It is not something you can explain without seeing the calf in question. Or aat least I can't. Every calf for me is different. you will have some calves who have no hair at all and it is difficult. If you can build with ultra white then by all means do. If you can't build then clear leg and tail adhesive will help a bunch. Mr stierwalt has that on his video and covers it. Some more experience folks might have better tips.

I show Simmental bulls, they have a ton of hair, and I usually pay someone to do it. I am fifteen and am learning. I would like to know how to do it one day. I'm just trying to get tips on how to do it. Thank y'all so much!

Hey, welcome to the business. I didn't recently know how to do it either. But I watched Charlie Wilson at Show Stock U and he said you round off the tail head on a heifer, with set of clippers. And make it come to a point on a steer or bull. Hope this helps.

For someone just starting out I wouldn't take that too literal. If you round it off too much your gonna make the calf look like it rolls out of it's hip and not look square.

To the OP: Since your talking about fitting a bull I would get on lautners website and look at his bulls. I don't know how to explain it in words, but you should be able to get the idea. Hope this helps and good luck.
