I was wondering if anyone had experience or knowledge of feeding flax seed or flax seed oil in a show calfs diet for hair beneits and weight benefits.
1) how much actual flax seed is the average amount tp feed? 1lb? 1/4lb? Less or more a day?
2) if feeding flax seed oil how much oil?
Thanks in advanced

I was hoping that some of the Canadians may help out with your question. There is way more Flax grown in Canada than in the U.S.

NDSU here in ND has done some feed out studies using flax.

I will try and find the link for it.

I know it is a low percentage of total ration, as too much oil disrupts the bacteria in Rumen.

O0 We fed some whole flax years ago.  I am not sure about any nutritional benefits but it certainly made the hair shine and made it easier to work.  If I remember right we added about 2 cups per day as a top dress on the ration.

I know flax is high in Omega Fats. There are companies that use flax to make protein tubs when they get an early frost up north and the flax is cheaper B/C of quality.
