Last I heard , they won't be getting Texas tornado semen ( the poster boy) because he wasn't collecting. But I si agree they will sell a bunch of semen and fluffy cow t-shirts.

I don't think they will sell anymore semen from it. It's mainly ppl who have no idea about cows. I like A Facebook post I saw about someone talking about wade Rodgers bulls. "No fluffy business, just good bulls" lol.

Matter of opinion. Go back through Rodgers bulls pedigrees, count how many doesn't have Lautner blood in them. I am pretty sure only Doc, maternal perfection, and Hard Whiskey dont have lautner in them.So sounds to me  like "the fluffy promoter" is the foundation for the "No Fluffy business, just good bulls"

I understand that. But I also think Lautner promotes some pretty sorry bulls. It's just funny to me that the "face of fluffy cows" Texas tornado is a bust, but looks pathetic in person.

Have you ever seen Meyer 734 promo pic? This is just my opinion, But I think i-80 is just about the ugliest headed/looking bull in the magazines but  you cant say that in front of people with a knife because people defend i-80 like he is the Jesus of the bulls. I understand Texas Tornado is a bust, might not be the best bull in the world, Did I breed to him (try to order semen) No I didn't. But My main point is Don't feed me the stuff that oh my Rodgers is so much greater than Lautner. He has to be around in 20 more years and still be at the top then its a legit argument. As of right now, you look through a Rodgers Catalog and you find 95% of his bulls go back to Lautner. So his bulls are bleeding "fluffy" blood as well. Will Lautners make money off of this?? Maybe just the shirts, but as far as the semen goes no because he is trying to bring the urban people knowledge of show cattle. This world will never go without beef. The west wasn't won on salads. Fluffy cows isn't going to hurt the show cattle world because Charlotte's Web didn't end the world Pork expo. Westminister is aired every year! So why don't we all just sit back and laugh at all the "yuppies" comments as they learn about fluffy cows!

I just think it's comical. I'm not taking sides, I just find the whole thing funny. And we know your buddy buddy with Lautner Cody. Not that it matters, I just find "fluffy cows" comical. 734 was a pb, not a crosses up clubby. I80 is ugly, makes great show heifers but that's it. I know the pedigrees I don't need to go back and check.

I find  a lot of it funny too! And your right it doesn't matter, I saw the same comment on facebook and just found that comment even funnier because of the reasons I stated with Rodgers having the same bloodlines! I figure this whole fluffy cow saga will get blown out of proportion somewhere because you can bet there will be one person out there who gets their panties in a bunch and takes offense too it. Like I said, I don't believe it will have any major negative effect on show cattle though. But quick Fire I agree with you, I find a good bit of this comical.

Why not promote pedigree, structure, soundness, etc....? Promoting FLUFFY COW as it is come great phenom is downright ignorant on the promoters part doesn't matter who it is!! I use lautners, Rodgers, and trauschs bulls so im not picking sides cause they each have a few great bulls in my opinion! But FLUFFY COW... REALLY???

There are now close to 20,000 followers on fb of the fluffy cow page thats alot of people to be reaching. They have also used it as an educational tool. I have seen the cuts of meat charts and cattle by products listed. They have also had people describe grading. Lautners blog has also had interviews with industry leaders to explain this part of the cattle industry. I think its a good thing to show agriculture in a positive light. It also helps the average person see how much work goes into the projects they see at the fair.

Pedigree- boring. Structure- boring. Soundness- boring. The issue is that's what we have been trying to push all this time and it's boring, society doesn't care about any of that.

Hair (and color) *google eyes* it excites "them" and that's what we have to do no matter if its really relevant or not. We have never been able to grasp the public with anything that they thought "wow I want to learn about that"

We can't be picky about how we present the cattle industry, that's been the issue all along. We have to simply use whatever works to promote ourselves (fluffy or not we are all on the same team)

Very well put, I guess I agree with this!!! If this FLUFFY COW thing works to grasp more attention I guess go for it. They do have more marketing experience than me lol and have been very successful so I guess they know what they are doing!! And as stated in an above post I see that they are also using this approach to teach the various cuts and other things.... sorry for rambling on before about how I thought this was ignorant... Hope all is well

I think that everyone can agree with the fact that this whole thing is a little comical.

I don't believe that the "No fluffy business" comment was referring to the Rodgers BULLS......I believe it was referring to the Lautner blog.

We can study pedigree all we want, and take sides between the two bull promoters.  That isn't really the point.  The point is (in my opinion) that one promoter is choosing to let the Fluffy Cow thing run its course and let it be what it is, and the other is choosing to "Beat the ever living life out of that drum" and claim it as if he started and invented the whole craze......rather than took ownership of it after it gained traction on its own.

Again, I agree that it is not a bad thing, or anything like that.  I am just clarifying that the Facebook post referred to has SOME merit......when analyzed in the intended context.

I am not partial to either promoter.  We show steers that are sired by both of their bulls.

If you go on Craigslist,or Kijijii there is always someone selling a hand milked cow or someone looking for one.I'm just making the point that people might see these cattle, think they are cute, breed the cow, then 9 months later pull out a teddy bear from the cow!
