Found this on Manitou's Maine-Anjou Website. He's a big ole boy that stayed in France but looks well put together.

Whats a birth weight on a bull like that?

You probably don't even want to know. You could flush one of those Lowlines and transplant the embryos into Holsteins. That might get you what you want.

i've seen those, like the cow.  vainqueur means winner in french.  that's not "vainqueur", wayyyyy too much white.  also, there's a recent vainqueur, so that might be him.

I thought he did not look the part. I like their foundation cattle. Do you think what we N. American's did with the Maine-Anjou had any bearing with them changing the name?

Well I am sure it was something like 80#.  With absolutely no trouble in the pedigree with calving.  ::)

I know when I was in England, the Belgium Blue breeders over there PLANNED on C-sections. They didn't even give them a chance to have a calf  naturally.  And they thought nothing of it.  When I speak to breeders over here, they say they have never ever had a c-section. So it might be similiar to the differences in Maines?  Did American's select for something different in each breed to "Americanize" the breeds? Or are they basically two different breeds (from the country of origin versus the US)?

It is an impressive looking bull!

Upon viewing the fine young sires now available-and seeing pictures of Cunia and Calberta Chinook 30-40 years ago-I would have to say specimans like Spaghetti-(with one horn up,one down-a pins to hooks roller coaster,no butt to speak of,and a probable bw to run from) The quality of the cattle has fallen.and the frame score has risen (if possible) or the is it the rib cage? This is my favorite Fullblood Maine of all time. MCCH Dana Girl owned by McCullock Maine-Anjou. I don't know if she has been PHA tested but an amazing Fullblood in phenotype. She is heavily linebred to Cunia going back to some great cow families.

Maybe her best card is that she goes back to a tremendous cow, Etoile Bleu. Don't know if she is outcrossed in relation to what is already out there. I would think outcross Shorthorn genetics would be the ticket if one was to flush her.

there's some nice outcrossy stuff in there.  also the 68y cow.

telos, use both AMAA and CMAA to review that pedigree a little closer.  you will see more french genetics up closer (besides cunia) than you might think for something that looks like her.

hmm.  maybe fullbloods and shorthorn associations should merge.

shorthorn breeders:  which of these 3  would work best on a flush of a tall & angular gee bar bred top &  bottom fullblood maine cow, amaa 407006?  hillrock ls exception; armageddon trudeau; thornwood major clark;  trying to get something different with old semen i have.
