My son is 10 years old, and if you look beneath the brim of all his caps you'll find his motto: HARD WORK PAYS OFF.  This last Saturday his hard work indeed paid off, as he drug his eye candy steer into the ring at OYE and walked out with the banner for champion charolais market steer.  This little boy worked hard with the steer & puts in his time.  He would get off the bus, hop on his bike & ride to the barn, halter the steer & walk it around until I got off work.  We would rinse him and work his hair in the evenings, and put him back out.  We fed 2 steers this year, and the other one (my daughter's heatwave steer) made the sale at our county fair, but was just too unpredictable to show at OYE.  She had to just help her little brother instead.  I'm awfully proud of my 2 kids this year.  They absolutely cannot wait until they get some new babies to work with.

Here's a picture of the steer.  Some of yall will probably recognize him from the Steerplanet classifieds.

It's nice to see kids still interested in showing! You should be very proud of him! Congrats on the win and good luck in the future! Nice looking steer he has there too!  <beer>

Very well said Jerrod. Your whole family is very well deserving of that. You think he was motivated before? You ain't seen nuthin' yet! I witnessed the same thing with my 12 year old girl last year. Her steer dindn't quite turn out the way we wanted this past year, but she knows what that feels like, and is HUNGRY! It's funny, sometimes we as parents are guilty of holding them back, as much as we are pushing them forward! Congratulations again, and keep it up!

Awesome!  Congrats on the success of the calf and your kids!  Always fun when your kids have a case of the "want too's" versus the "have too's".

Just keep on bragging a lot! There's nothing more satisfying to a parent to watch their kid get it done - largely on their own.  Good calf and better kid!

Congrats!! Great looking team.

Some of our best times are when the kids and I are working calves out in the show barn togather.

Congrats! It means so much more to the juniors who win that have put the time and hard work into it. Thank you for posting this I also have a 10yr old son who does it 95% on his own and he has learned that the long hours in the barn do pay off. Congrats!

I do not know you guys but I watched that little boy show in both drives and he is great on the stick for his age & size. You can also tell he is super passionate & wants to be there! The steer looked great! My friends and I were all awwing all over him. Congratulations to a deserving young man!
