I was just wandering what the daily hair care of your show cattle is, like what type of product you apply daily, and any other tips on promoting hair growth. Any help would be great, I have a really nice calf with potential and I am willing to do anything that will help him look better.
Thanks, Morris Cattle

Lots of good tips on this board.  Check out the "Hall of Fame" board here on Steer Planet for a whole big long thread RE this very subject.

Blow, blow, blow & brush, brush, brush are the best answers.

I like to use some vinegar mixed with Sheen (most leave in conditioners need to be "cut", but lots of people use them in place of sheen).  Pink oil is good & doesn't require rinsing out.  Just keep it light.

Lots of people like to rinse the cattle often, but that has never really been something that I've done a lot of (Mine are lucky to stand in front of fans very much) & I usually do OK.  I like to put some vinegar in a bucket with water occasionally & dump it on them after rinsing.  After rinsing brush them, then blow them dry, place under fans, & in a fairly dark place during the day.

Feeding some melatonin will make them "shag up".  I've never fed it, but I know people who have & swear by it.

If you are "willing to do anything"... build him a cool room.  ;-)    I don't have one of those either, but they obviously help.

If you have questions, PM Olson Family Shorthorns... he takes the hair growing thing very seriously & he probably wouldn't mind offering some tips & suggestions.  Might be a day or 2 before he gets back home though.
