YOU NEED A COLD ROOM! SPEAKING OF THAT SHOULD YOU LEAVE CALVES IN A COLD ROOM ALL THE TIME OR JUST 3 OR 4  MON. BEFORE A SHOW. WHAT IS EVERYONE ELSE DOING?

I would say you need to have your calf in 90 days before your big show/shows. One thing I always think of is that hair only lasts so long before they have to shed out. I am pretty sure that even if you had a calf in a cooler all winter through summer that after 5 or 6 months they would shed. I get asked by my customers every year right now if their calf will keep their hair if they work hard and keep them cool. I tell them no, they will not keep their hair and you have to grow new stuff.

last year our calves lost their hair in february. it was really cold in the first part of the month then got up to a little over freezing for a week and then they shucked hair like there was no tomorrow. most of the time we can hold the hair until the end of march when the show season is over but the weather didn't agree.
