Has anyone seen any MAB x PB Charolais calves?

With all due respect to your donor, if you value that cow at $1200 (unsure of age) You would have to calve out a live calf with $6300 to make any profit.. that's assuming the calf doesn't abort, the calf doesn't die during birth, the dam doesn't did during birth, the cashed doesn't come out with a defect, the calf doesn't get pnemonia, etc. Then you have to wean, break, and market That calf and That isn't free.  What if you want a desired sex?  That also doesn't account for the 6 months of feed the core needs. You may have a hard time getting that price.

I completely understand what you are saying; however, I hope you can see how incredibly expensive the breeder side of this can be.  TransOva's price for the recip is $2200, not $1200.  I agree it is too much, but that is the cost and it is not negotiable.  We bought the best donor we could find and that caliber of animal is not a cheap investment.  I also have semen costs, the shipping expense to get that semen to my embryologist ($159), the flush costs, and board for both the donor and the recipient.  Due to our travel costs, the animals are kept at the ET center until pregnancy is confirmed because a trip to the ET center is no small endeavor for us.  The recip has taken an egg everytime, so although she isn't much to look at, she is a functional female that saves us money in the long run because she takes one the first time and there is no expense to cycle her again and use another valuable embryo not to mention board and all the other expenses involved.  In this respect, she does her job well and I don't mind using her again next season to grow another ET calf. 

The donor is scheduled for a flush to Monopoly on 1/22.  We are setting up three recips to receive fresh transfers.  If we were not doing this, the MAB would not even be for sale.  The calf is due on my daughter's birthday and she will happily take the registered percentage Charolais calf to our State Charolais junior show next summer or the Charolais National show, whether it be steer or heifer.  I have enough confidence in the donor that the calf will be that strong of a contender.  I would like to see it in the hands of a junior who wants to take it to a major; and serious inquiries are welcome to view the donor at the ET center at the convenience of my embryologist.  Thanks for everyone's input.

I, too, think that MAB will work on PB Charolais. I have a Firewater cow bred to MAB that is due in August with a bull calf. Hoping it works.

I also like the idea of my kids doing a from the ground up project. My husband grandmother has some frozen semen we are going to use on my sons heifer so he can raise his own calf.

I am finally getting round to posting these photos of the MAB bull calf (August born) I had out of my purebred Firewater cow.  I think he is very complete.  I bred her back the same way last week.

Here is a heifer calf with the MAB x Charolais mating; we have been quite pleased with her development.  The pictures were of she back in April. 

We will be flushing her dam ( also pictured ) to MAB next summer.

Yes, that calf is looking good!  Where are you getting $1,200 cows that can produce like that??? LOL

Another Monopoly son that I am thinking about for a Char donor is Fu Man Chu. Any thoughts on that mating?  Sorry if I am diverting this post a bit.

I think he'd work. 

I want to try M2O.  I was lucky enough to stow away two straws last year.  I like M2O as much for the Kelly cow as I do for his Monopoly sire.

Keep us updated on his progression, still waiting to see a man among boys develop and slick and be remotely worth a damn as a fat in Texas with no hair- hope you are the beginner of a possible trend with this mating... Please restore some faith that they don't all get too plain, open shouldered, weak backed, small footed and and too low performing

With that said I tried the creature and solid gold on purebred flushes should be coming this fall, and doing some red headed stepchild on purebred cows at the end of the month ivf
