Need some opinions.

Son got done with county fair with his Heat Wave 5 market heifer.  We did breed her just to keep her from cycling.  She's due to calve late March to a Built Right son.

The only other Heatwave we've had around didn't  really know how to milk.  If this one is out of a good crossbred cow that milks, is a Heatwave heifer like this worth giving a shot?

She's made well and should be a nice, moderate cow.  Never got overly fat...weighs 1125 right now.

Any thoughts appreciated...limited experience with this bloodline.

Scott,  I wouldn't fool with her. She probably doesn't have a chance. If I were you, I'd probably just sell her to me for about $100 under market and forget about her. You know those Heatwaves aren't even worth market.  They got all that hair, buyers dock them, etc, etc  (lol)

Congrats on the fair. A day like that can be encouraging enough for a child to want to do it for ever even if there are bumps along the way.

Thanks, Phil.

I did price her at $50 under fat price to a neighbor...with no guarantees other than she will calve before April 10th.

Just really bothers me to potentially take one to the locker with a calf in her.

If you have a good market for steers in your area I would let her have the calf then flush her. Even though she may not milk like the Simmental cows you are used to I would bet that she would throw some good steers that would do good on a recip cow. It really just depends on what you can sell in your area.
