I have purchased a couple PB 1st calf fancy Charolais heifers that I am going to breed for smoke colored calves this coming May. I am looking for clubby bulls that are homo black. I didn't mind doing the research but all the sites I have been looking at don't list them if they are homo black. I was told that Paddy Omally is homo black but most places don't list him as being homo black. So if you know of any site that will tell me or feel free to list clubby bulls you like that are homo black. I am not to concerned about calving easy being the already had there 1st calf and have a good build and Charolais are not the easiest calving breed as I have seen alot of high birth weights on PB Charolais.

Carnac has worked well for me on Charolais ,but I have had patchy or spotted calves out of him ,no ratails ....Heat Wave will definitely throw ratails .....Monopoly from my experience works good, but he will have as many creams as smokes,BUT i LIKE THE CREAMS and Monopolys have great hair .... .....Remember this is my cowherd or genetics ,an you never know how genetics work on different groups of cows today ...Had some EYE CANDYS and color was consistantly smoke ...Don't recomend Who made Who with the experience I have had ....

I also got some Char heifers bought this year and I am looking for opinions on how to breed them also....Freddy you say WMW doesn't work on Char's? I got a big framed Cool Whip x LT Bluegrass x Thomas Oahe Wind and I was thinking I got 1 unit of WMW left and thought he would work but I have no experience breeding these Char's.

Also got a smaller framed, coarser made Char hfr that has a few orange spots on her. She was DNA'd and is a PB Char but I was thinking about Hereford on her and trying to get an orange baldy?

Sorry for Hijacking your thread Big M-Trendsetter is Homo blk, Sheriff Taylor is but if Freddy says no WMW on Char he is a WMW grandson.
Alias is a Char x WMW but I have seen a few calves with bad wheels when Alias is put on a clubby cow. And seen some really nice ones.
I see in last years Accelerated book Pride and Glory is Homo black, Ali x WMW again tho! Maine bull Boomer is homo black Genex has him in their Added Attractions, Smoking Joe, Special Delivery, Hard Drive, also there and homo blk.

You know how it seems that you need the TH for hair and bone, and PHA brings some to the table also.  Ever wonder if the red gene is somewhat linked also?  It just seems every great sire is a red carrier lately.  Or am I mistaken?

Shiver is homo black. Have not used him, he is supposed to a calving ease bull. WMW is a feast or famine deal on Charolais, if they are structurally correct enough they are nice...TH originated in Shorthorn bloodlines, so homo black cattle would have less tendency to carry it...The yellow (cream) ones are just as valuable around here...

that's the mix matched genetics that's behind those sires.  No consistency of breeding, and no predictability.

and the fact that TH stems from red cattle-- meaning it must be in there, or bred out...

To  Till-Hill about WMW , the calves I got from him were  kinda buck knee' ed  ,don't seem to grow, not sure if they would hit the 1300 mark ,and had some that were that dark smoke like a rattail  ,,,,Different bloodlines are going to work different also.... I used LIFELINE and didn't have any success but lot of southern peopple really liked him ....

Monopoly is not Homo black. He'll throw red calves. CTR Success is Homo black, but PPL won't be crazy about the steer calves, but will like the females IMO.

With my experience with charolais is if you want a for sure shot at smokes stick with a purebred bull either maines or some oldhe bred angus stuff like legend if your shooting for females. If your shooting for steers find a bull that you think will match the cow then just hope for the smoke or yellows. Like already stated the color gene in a lot of these bulls are almost unpredictable. Monopoly has probably been the most consistent for creams that I have seen. Walks alone throws more red than smoke but a buddy got a smoke this past year and man o man he is sweet! Freddy uses a lot carnac and the are good cattle productive and have enough growth but they usually have pretty good hair and are plenty stout enough. The bull muddy water is a carnac son that freddy raised and has started producing some great ones down here in Texas.
