I tried ordering I-80 through ABS and my dealer said they didn't have any because ABS tested the semen and it showed that I80 has lepto they sent all of there semen back to the Lautner's.  Be prepared to Spirovac all of your cows if you have I80 calves is what I was told by my vet.

so, if i breed 1 cow to I80, the cow catches and has the calf next spring, then that calf can spread lepto to the rest of the herd?

Yes, when did this come about??  On April 18th, Lautner's blog says I-80 was healthy and collecting despite rumors.  I just put some I -80 in my tank, and I am super excited to use it.

So if this is true can we send our semen back for a refund? I have some in my tank but after hearing this I'm scared to use it.

Was this just a high titer response to a lepto vaccine prior to collection?  Didn't something like this happen with Fat Butt?

From a paper done by the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University:

Survival of leptospires is favored by moisture and warm temperatures and under these conditions the organism may persist for days to weeks outside of the animal; survival is brief in dry soil or at freezing or sweltering temperatures.

If this is just something somebody made up that's pretty sh**ty of them. But also at the same time relieving.

Lepto is passed through the urine and is detectable by blood in the urine. It is not suppose to be passable through semen. According to my source the semen should be ok to use just would make sure you vaccinate. We use beef master and that will vaccinate against Lepto and many other diseases.

So, if I bred some cows to him back in November, are those cattle ok then if its not passed through semen? Should I be keeping a close eye on them and separate them from the rest of my cows?

Kinda planning on using him heavily this year so I hope there's no danger/risk to using this semen or I'm gonna be a very unhappy person! I think I might be taking a straw or two to my vet and have it looked at.

if lepto cannot be passed through the semen why is ABS worried about it? is it a common practice at all collection facilities to test for lepto?

It's good that the rumors are done and we have seen proof!
