Thanks for posting this.  The reason I was curious is because there is so much talk about how good the show heifers are.  Some of the best cows I have are the ones that did the best in the show ring.  It would seem like if the judges are picking them to win, and cattle ranches are paying the kind of money they are, then this would translate into good momma cows.

Now don't get me wrong, I know there are plenty of terminal looking heifers running around the show ring but I really haven't seen those rise to the top in the last several years.  I certainly don't see the I80's having the look of terminal heifers.  I will admit that I don't know what kind of cows Ali raised but it has been a very successful bloodline.

Again, thanks for posting this thread, I was wondering why the comment was made.  And not for the sake of argument but for the sake of education.

From my point of view a good mother cow is a wide headed broody type female with lots of capacity, I don't see that in I80's at all. They are longer from poll to mouth than a lot of other sires make, can be taller and lack body. Exceptions to everything I know. I80 is back by a super cow I know, but the bull himself is gutless and as post legged as they come. On deep sided big volume cattle he can throw you a monster show heifer! From what I have seen his bred heifers are hard doers and don't keep their flesh like a good cow should. They grow into tall, leggy cattle. With i80 being so straight I would worry about throwing more clubby into the equation hoping for show calves. Just my opinion, but I'm not convinced they will make long lasting brood cows. Don't get me wrong though, he can make show heifers! And I use him for that myself.

looked at a I80 first calf heifer last night. She is out of a Shorthorn cow and had a 94lb calf no problem (first calf). She had a tremendous udder and seems to be fleshy enough. I have to end my thread with a question, is I80 horned? I have a I80 out of a GVC Suh/Aunt B that has horns, the cow is polled.

I think he is horned... I don't know that but I've seen a few with horns.
As far as the topic goes, I don't see why the I80's won't make cows. He's backed by Ali and Hard Drive.

We have one I80 in production and we really like her.  She reached puberty at 8 months old.  Caught on first AI.  Calved at 23 months on her own and is making a great cow.  She cycled twice before the start of this breeding season and we will AI her on her 3rd heat.  She improved the udder and milk of her mother.  Not much more you can ask for out of a 2 year old.

I think I80 is polled, but does carry a horn gene.

American Maine Anjou Association has him as SCURRED.  I have one out of a Who cow that is average at best with small buttons that i did not notice at birth.  An old timer once told me ''All good cattle have horns!" ;) i would sell my straws for $50.  Not that the right mix won't make a great one.  It takes a better bull than I-80 to fix my cows. and yes i am still looking for that bull. <beer>

Wow. I don't even know where to start. Your initial assumption is wrong on so many levels. Secondly, our definition of cattle ranch must vary greatly.

Quick fire,
Our points of view are very similar. You had me from 'wide headed'

You are quickly becoming the new AJ of steer planet without the mention of birth defects!! Only worse I think.  Your defensive posture on 99% of your post says a lot to those who are reading.  You attack everyone who doesn't share or agree with your point of view. In an attempt to present yourself as as someone who should be respected in the industry you are loosing respect by being argumentative with everyone who doesn't share your believes.  You called showsstopper a kid earlier this week when that young man show a great deal more maturity than you ever have on the forum.  Now its your turn, but I can promise you one thing, I will never respond to you, any of your post, or your total lack of respect for people again.

I think it's obvious where I stand on Jody chandler, you guys are way off in left field if you remotely believe you know what a good bovine looks like, not just on this topic but all of them. We should drop the forum on this site, because discussion goes nowhere or you'll be trolled. We need to make a blog so we can all be informed of dr Jody jrs know how and success in the industry in and out of the ring

Good luck to myself and all of us on raising our inferior cattle, we all know we will need it when the wrath of x bar takes over the cattle world

Just my 2 cents, not related to this topic but in general. Don't post because you'll be told your wrong, ill informed, childish, or straight up ignorant, by someone who as aspirations to gain customers and make a living in this business

Rock on rack ranch

It's not a defensive posture; it's a quick and assertive reaction to BS!
