My bet is that the bull is a poor semen producer, resulting in less quantity to meet demand, therefore they jacked the price.  This would also explain why I got such crappy conception with the Indian Outlaw semen I bought last spring for 20 bucks.  I used 3 straws on an angus cow that has always stuck first service and still didnt get her stuck, I think the semen is slop.

I talked to Lautners about  three weeks ago and Indian Outlaw died therefore they raised his semen price since the semen is limited!

My semen quality seemed ok, we bred 5 fall calvers to him, and got 4 pregnant. Ultrasounded them, 3 bulls, 1 heifer coming.

Funny how people automatically seem to think that they jack the price up because he is a poor producer.  Lautners bulls are leading the club calf industry and people will take any shot at them that they can run across, jealousy is an ugly thing.  We used Outlaw last year on 3 cows and every one took the first time, just because a cow has taken the first time everytime before doesn't mean she will every time.  Luckily for me we have a good supply of him in our tank and look forward to seeing his calves.

Oldwood is right Matt posted it on his blog he is dead, and if his calves turn out to be as good as we are hoping I hope there is a clone to replace him.  JMO

Too bad he died so young.  I also hope they had the forethought to clone him.

Looks like he'll throw some real colored calves!

May use him one day for the color.

we were able to get one of our show cows bred to him, so hopefully we get a lot of color.  Does anyone know what was wrong with him or why he died?

e/b cattle I'm pretty sure no one is taking a shot at Lautner's bulls.  Its simple if there is a bull that is having hit or miss semen quality and the demand is still up, the price will have to go up as well.  Easy economics!!
P.S. he is dead and stands alone is also going to go up because he is having a tough time producing.

bs372280  I  understand that there are multiple scenarios that can affect the quality of  semen.  I may have been on the defense having just read all the negative comments about Lautners under the I-80 thread as well as the Heat Wave thread.  If that was not aandtcattle's point my honest mistake.  I just stand up for what is right and if I offended anyone that was not my intention.

so were they collecting semen on him while he was sick?  That doesn't sound too kosher if they were and couldn't figure out what was wrong.  Hopefully it wasn't anything genetic or transmittable

Very doubtful if it was transmissable.....  Why would someone put their reputation up there for a few bad straws?
