I thought there were some good buys to be had at the Shorthorns sale.  The crowd seemed smaller than normal to me.  Maybe it's hard to be enthused about getting up to go to a cattle sale when it's 17 below zero, or worse, two mornings in a row.  My bull didn't even make it to Des Moines, mostly because my outdoor washrack had a "CLOSED" sign on it due to below zero temperatures.  Supposed to be in the 30's this weekend, maybe I can get him shined up and on the classified page!

Thanks for the Shorthorn update.

For the unofficial numbers that Sue posted-- does anyone have an opinion on why some of the bull final sale prices down or "deals"?

I watched it on line and I wish I had been their.  I am certain their was money to made on several of the lots in both the bull sale and the females.

There were some very good bulls that did not bring what they should have, in my opinion.  Several would have worked well in many of the small purebred herds around the midwest.  There were a few that brought higher prices that I didn't think were as useful as some of the low sellers.  Sometimes it works out that way.  I thought the crowd was smaller due to the extremely cold weather.  There didn't appear to be as many young persons looking for a show heifer as usual.

I stuck my head in just a few minutes......  Watched what I thought looked like a nice younger April/may show prospect bring less then 2000... Nice little blue roan...  Next heifer brought close to three, better cow prospect maybe not as fancy......  Heifers averaged like 2100 and change?....  Probably some value if someone was looking for a mid level show prospect......
