Jungels-Durhams for Denver

Anyone have the results for Jungels sale by Lot?

musta not been very good.. last year this board was crawling with info from that sale...  Wonder if DS had them all scared off?

My brother called me Saturday to discuss the bulls. He said Lot 5, 6, and 18 were his picks worth the money. Then he told me some of the bulls framed 4.3 to 4.9. That is just to small for us, maybe not for people with 7 -8 frame hard doing cows. But to small for us.

Hey, if I remember right, 6 and 18 were 2 of my top 3 picks from the catalog--- great minds must think alike 

I do want to say that he was very impressed with the quality, and stated that not many breeders could make it to Denver with 50 bulls that good. However, performance was a question in his mind, but Derek sells them so he must know what his customers want.

They were down at the sale but they didn't get anything. I don't know if they were bidding on any lots however

According to what I just read in the catalog=

12 JPJ sons averaged 3604-- I'd say the lowest of the sale.
26 JPJ grandsons average 3651--

Granted the 15,000 bull throws averages off-- but maybe he's just that good...-- take him out an the average on 52 bulls is 3684..

Darn....looked like lot 5 sold pretty reasonable.....I had him marked. Lauer breeding pretty heavy in some of the lots.

Sounds like a a pretty good sale to me

25 of the bulls have no JSF breeding at all. None more than 2 generations deep. Odd considering their website says they started in '53.

75% of jpj appears in all shorthorn pedigrees. its fair to say ohlde has a hold on the breed?

I am tired, and not trying to be a butt, but could you reword or explain that a bit I dont understand what you are trying to say.

purchased sires, purchased dams, grand parents, etc...

no true vision of breeding program that keeps it's own females/ sires.. and has success with them.

jpj is in 75% of all pedigrees. Ohlde is at the top right now.  ( I think this is what she meant frostie)


First angus, then shorthorn. That guy beat me to it by 20 years.  Oh well, I will just have to be the guy who did it after Ohlde   <rock>

When you do , make sure you have a website that at least gives the impression your a legitimate operation.  Ohlde's is.. well... It looks like its from a template I made in 5th grade.  Maybe I'm jus too new school but when I hear of something at the top, I expect to be able to find some kind of online presence.

It looks like its from a template I made in 5th grade.  Maybe I'm jus too new school but when I hear of something at the top, I expect to be able to find some kind of online presence.

i disagree.  i think they have 20/20 vision!  most used sire in the breed. ability to haul 50+ head to denver and put on a successful sale. etc. etc. etc.  having true vision is also realizing that there are other lines in the breed besides your own that can really click with what you are doing, incorporating those lines, and drawing those followers into your style as well...actually pretty brilliant if you ask me...what better way to increase popularity by showing how versatile your sire is and how he can work on different cow families (for you aj  if you only put out to the public cattle that have to have your stuff top and bottom, you are limiting the usefulness of your own genetics...jpj didnt get to be popular by only offering jpj x jpj or jpj x whatever jungels said....he's popular because he's jpj x whatever you want!


and just because you didnt see generations (stacked) of jungles/oldhe in this one particular sale, doesnt mean its not there...it just wasnt as pronounced in this one particular event...but why should it be?  its denver!  everyone who's anyone and has anything will be there (ill get there one day, lol  maybe)  anyway, what im trying to say is you've got a "diversified" audience at your convenience, show cattle people, commercial cattlemen, big boys, little girls, john doe, canadians, aussie's, etc, etc, etc...and you have something to offer for just about everyone...instead of trying to force your sire x your cow down peoples throats...

pretty easy vision to see if you ask me...

fi they have a vision, and are making better offspring, than the purchased parents... wouldn't the best ones be out of homebred stock?  What happend to the hundreds produced since the 50s?  Wasn't anything in the catalog with 3 generations stacked up..  If they are producing the best- then where are they?

TRUE BREEDING PROGRAMS don't have to go out and outsource better genetcs.
