Does anyone have any tricks when it comes to white calves? I have a white sin city heifer, and we try really hard to keep her under fresh bedding and clean but she does have stains from being with the dam.

We used Sullivan's Bright Lights shampoo and found it works really well. The stuff is purple and looks like it could stain them but it washes out great and makes whites whiter.

We used Mrs. Stewarts Blueing, found in the laundry section of your grocery. It is an additive to keep white clothes white. We added it to our Joy bottle, turning it a dark blue. DO NOT ADD THE BLUEING DIRECTLY TO THE ANIMAL- witnessed this at a junior national and the poor calf look like half smurf! That and a rice root brush with some elbow grease should work wonders.

I aggree with the bright lights. scrubb it really good and let sit for 5-10min and then rinse it out dont use more than 1 or 2 a week other wise it can dry there skin out. if nothing else just make sure u rinse her and she will stay as white as she can be.

We've shown white cattle for years. We use 1/2 ezall and 1/2 lemon dish soap from the grocery. We also use a bluing shampoo called Gold Nugget. It works really well. Best advice I have though is to keep stall/corral clean and brush a couple times a day and wash regularly.

Thanks for the advice, we use bright lights and will have to try the mrs. stewarts blueing....We also use the EZall...I will be mixing it with lemon shampoo tonight, we use it daily, and it gets expensive so I will be happy to dilute it  :)

Don't use EZ All every day.  I know its supposed to be good for their hair, but using soap on them daily is never a good idea.  It can strip the oil from their hair and can actually make them more susceptible to staining.

Nope, once a week is just about perfect.  What do you put in her hair after you rinse and blow her out?

I would suggest the Infusium idea, and we use a concentrated silicon product called Laser Sheen, its like 12 bucks for a bottle that makes a gallon of sheen, and then cut that by 1/2 with vinegar.  We only use Revive once a week at most, and on some calves we don't use it at all

We use Bright Lights mixed with Ivory for the whites.  When we rinse...we "dip" after.  I fill up a bottle with a splash of vinegar and about a quarter size dab of conditioner.  This helps with dandruff and not drying the hyde out.

Cowboy Magic Green Spot Remover really helps with the tough spots. Bright Lights by Sullivan's can really make the white-white!

Soap can dry the skin out, that is true. Try hitting the really dirty spots each day and rinsing the rest of the body. Make sure to get the water out of her, too. Moisture will absorb things that can stain- manure, dirt, etc. Infusium is great, but hard to find for me these days. I need it just for myself! LOL. I have looked at Targets, Walmarts and CVS's around the metro area. Where are ya'll finding it?
