I just gave it a shot with the steers. placed them 4-1-2-3. Official was 1-4-2-3. Got my top pair switched and ended up scoring 47.

I just did it and I didn't agree a bit with the placing either. I sure hope thats not how they placed at the fair. Howd ya'll place them? I placed them 4231 from what I could see.

For the most part I agree with the placings. I went 4-1-2-3. But I also didn't have much time to look at their whole video. Not everyone is going to get a 50 on every class like jeff said. That's why they have reasons. It is not uncommon to score a low 40 on placings and get a high 40 in reasons. People see and appreciate certain traits different than others. Great site Jeff, keep up the good work.

There's another thing you touched on. In any livestock contest I've been in you always judge the steers based on their market potential. Structure, Eye Appeal, HAIR (  ;) ) Should all be the last things considered. I think the class easily divides up into two pairs. The top two have the muscle that the packers want. They are the kind that will make more money. The other two are just plainer, lighter muscled steers.

I also got a 47 on the market steers. Just switched that top pair. That just goes to show how people look at cows differently.

I got 47 on market steers, 50 on breeding heifers, and 17 on the ewes.  I figured the last one was a pretty good indicator that I should just stop there.  ;D
