My 10 year old daughter just called me (I am at work), so excited she could barely hold a conversation. Seems her cow, a past show heifer on her third calf, just had a calf and it was cute! She could tell me nothing else other than it was sitting up looking at her with Kitty, her cow, looking at her with a look that said "don't come in here!". Her excitement just made me giggle, because it is HER calf...  ;D
Just had to share... I love this part of the cattle business

I can remember my first calf being born for sure.  I got the bus driver to let me off a mile from my house, climbed through the fence, and ran as fast as my 2 ft tall legs could take me across the pasture to see him.  It's that excitement that has carried me along through all the let downs associated w/ having cattle.  Make a big deal about it, Im sure this memory will last w/ her forever.

Yep, got home to a still excited young lady, but a bit disappointed because it is a bull, the 10th calf in a row that is a bull! We are having quiet a string of luck, at this rate we will have to buy show heifers for next year. Never in the world thought we would have 10 bull calves in a row....
oh, and we have a heifer that is now 10 days late so likely that is a bull!

Here is a pic of him. He is a sib to the red steer she showed last year that was Reserve Champ at South Central Regionals and won our county carcass contest. Same dam, but his sire is the bull in my avatar, a Dominator son (the steer was sired by Dominator also). This guy is THICK and big boned. Weighed 80 pounds, and is the third calf from this cow. My daughter is praying already that he has a good attitude so he can stay a bull (the reason we cut the red steer was his attitude). But, she is in love! Now to think of a name.... some of the things they come up with!
