Which Maine/Maine Influenced bull would you recommend on a 1/2 blood Angus, EXT grandaughter?  I am trying to decide between Mercedes Benz or I-80.  I know they are both younger bulls, but they both have some super eye appeal.  Thank you.

I-80 has Zero calves on the ground, I don't think he is old enough to produce. I would not breed any heifer to an unproven bull. Just because he comes from calving ease genetics does not assure him to be calving ease. Money Man and Bouncer are both Maine bulls that are pretty sure fire when talking calving ease maines.

I-80 is unproven so I would stay away from him until he has calves on the ground and is proving calving ease. If you are choosing between the two I'd go with Benz. But overall if you're open to suggestions, Majors Money Man or Gigilo Joe would be what I'd breed them to if she was in my herd. Good luck!

Edit: I completely agree with OH Breeder, we had a money man calf this year, 70lbs unassisted, very healthy and vigorous.

I realize that I-80 is a new bull and doesn't have calves yet.  Thank you for the suggestions.  There is just something about Benz that interests me.  It looks like it will be down to him or Gigolo Joe.  If there are any more bulls out there that people feel strongly about, please comment.  Thanks.

I hear what you're saying regarding Benz.  I ordered semen to use on 2nd calving heifers.  I'm still not sure I'd use him on a first timer.  He may, in time, prove to be a great calving ease sire.  It's just not worth the risk to me.  I think Bouncer is a more logical choice.  I have been very happy with his calves come weaning time.  If you're dead set against him or Money Man, I would go with Gigolo Joe.  Very few heifers have that one in a million high selling calf.  A live calf and a healthy mom are priceless to me.

I use Major's Money man without question on heifers.  I have also had good luck with Gigolo Joe.  I've used Joe on my Money Man daughters with really nice success.

Ali would be my first choice, we have calved unassisted heifers to him, 2 of which were All About You heifers.  We used Gigolo Joe and Tyson on heifers this year.

Looking at your choices, I would go with Mercedes Benz.

Good luck!!

I would use Benz on First calf heifers and never think twice about it. We have calved out over 50 to benz with over 25 of those being first calf heifers. We had to only pull one of these 50. That calf was comming backwards and was breeched. I have visited with a lot, not all, of the people who used him last year, and great reports about the calves. Easy calving, Killer look, Square hipped with good bone has been a very consistent comment. Here is a heifer out of a mossy oak heifer which is a maintainer, and the other is a high % out of Total Package, and I will post a picture of a bull that we raised that is flat out awsome. Just got to get time to get the camera to the feild. Heifers were raised by Bushy Park Farms. Call with any questions.

wscc,

You have just complicated my life immensely.  I have really like Benz since the first time I saw him.  I am keeping some angus heifers as replacements and was sold on breeding to Bouncer.  Your comments now have me rethinking the whole thing.  I will be breeding several cows to Benz at the end of the month.  Would you recommend him for angus and high percentage angus heifers as well?

I love the Benz calves and we have had no trouble calving him,  I also think the Gucci calves are looking good and come pretty small but probaly do come a little harder than the Benz calves had to pull one but it was out of a heat seeker heifer.  Have tried Money man and Gigiloe joe and they are difinetly calving ease but I think with Benz and Gucci you get calving ease and a little bit more marketable calves. At least around our place.  I am really interested in the I-80 bull, probaly try some this year.  I believe his dam is out of Benz's mom.  So if I'm thinking right that would make him a 3/4 sib.

WSCC,  What will Benz bring to the table?  Is there any worry of Benz making them to straight fronted, looks like he could be? Have two I want to breed him to. One is small to moderate Harrietta sonx 1/4 meyer needs more muscle, thickness and bone. The other is a moderate Carneyman X Draftpick needs more depth of rib and hair. Both could use that cocky look.

Pa Pigman, I own a Lutton Daughter purchased from Express and a TC Freedom Cow from Jack Ward. I am flushing the TC Freedom Cow this Thursday bred to Benz and breeding the Lutton to Benz for a first calf heifer. This was based off how much he had improved our Commercial angus cows. We have been AIing for several years and never felt more confident in a bull.

RCF Farms, As in anything there is no guarentees in cattle breeding. However, I do not see any indications that the Benz calves will be to straight. Benz will definently put the Cocky look your after. It is fun to drive out in the pasture with people, We will have a feild of 60 head in a pasture and people always comment wow look at that cocky lookin calf, What is she??? BENZ. All of our Benz calves have been good boned and square hipped and good haired.
