Hand held torch, GOOD sewing needles, (small) pliers, and one of mothers good kitchen spoons. Pressure up the pipe, heat the needle red hot and make your orifice. Those which are too big (most will be) adjust with the red hot back of the spoon. You can seal the spray with the spoon also when you realize you made three times too many openings! This method does not clog nearly as bad as the commercial misters.

I thought you were being  a smart butt until I read more and got what you were getting at. Might have to experiment with this. I cant use nozzles as my water will clog them right up.

dfm... How far apart would you recommend the holes be.  Also what size pipe did you use?  Thanks

Our rural water really clogged up misters last summer during the drought so I went back to the way we did it "way back when" before everyone decided to make money selling misting systems. Distance between your holes will vary as to how you are using the system.  In an enclosure on a solid floor with a drain I would place them about 4 feet apart to begin.  In my calving barn with a dirt floor last summer, after I put them 4 feet apart I had to go back and seal over about ever other one! Trial and error and you can always add more openings.  Use PVC pipe and I have always used 3/4 but just because 3/4 is what is used everywhere on the place and I already have most of the connections on hand.

Are you using the system on a fan, you could use the pex tubing that homes use, found it to be easy to attach and use. Use a ball valve also that willhelp you set the amount of water/pressure going thru the pipe. We used 1/2" and 3/8", it's what we had around. The needle and spoon is a great idea. We used a orifice drill bit (have them, that was my trade). Good luck

Go to Farmtek.com and do a search for fogging. I've been using the same tips for 3 years and are used everyday. the part number I'm using are WF 4095 and WF 1270.
Well worth the money. I am using a battery operated timer and run 30 minutes every 2 hours.

I have wondered about "pex" also but never tried any. I almost bought a crimping tool the other day when I was working with copper but went with compression instead. I have placed the PVC pipe usually in a straight run across the end of a barn open to the wind and also placed fans which catch the mist and carry it over the cattle. Also talked to individuals who used the sprayer nozzles as described above but if I recall they also had to turn their systems on and off due to the volume of HOH thru the system. Sprayer nozzles would be the berries tho if you experimented with them and got your flow restricted enough. We leave our system on in a dirt floor barn from about 10:00 - 11:00 am until late evening. About 10:30 amwhen it starts getting hot the calving cows take off enmasse and head to the barn!
