Anybody out there try the halfblood Mo Magic bull on any first calf heifers ? I know he doesnt have the greatest calving ease epds but neither does Mo Better and I know of plenty that have used him on heifers. Thinking maybe Mo Magic on a couple halfbloods I have. My heifers calving ease and birth weight epds are very good if that helps the equation any. Thanks

I did use Mo Magic on a heifer that we sold and she got along fine. Have another fall born on the ground out of a mature cow...he wasn't huge but stout enough. I wouldn't call him a heifer bull or a low birth weight bull by any means, and I've only had the two so not much experience with him really. But no wrecks, either.

Sorry I'm not more help but at least it's a start... Good luck.

Have some friends that had a 130 pound calf, dead, out of a mature cow (simmental) that has never thrown a calf that big! I certainly would not use him, but I don't typically use half blood bulls.

Appreciate the replys ! Ya i dont know what to think for sure. Proper heifer management and the right heifers might be the key.  I know there is always some horror stories out there  but i can honestly say ive used a purebred Perfector bull  the last 4 years that was a plus 3.7 bw and never out of any cow size shape or form had a calf over 100 pounds. When i hear of these weights in the 120s and 130s I just think there is much more to blame. We havent had any near that big since back in the 80s , and they were red n white , striped out of a full fleck bull !
