Here are a few more pictures I have taken over the weekend in my pasture checks. Here are some of our sale females for the Fever Sale, Olds, AB on October 22nd. All the cattle pictured are on pasture yet, with no additional feed.

1) the first is a 3 year old daughter of our donor Prairie Lane Sparkle 1K. I got talked into selling her as a sale feature, and I finally agreed and I will keep a heifer calf and a flush in her. She is moderate, thick, good uddered fertile, and as easy keeping as her dam. I  must have rocks in my head to sell her, however, I have several more calves coming from her dam. She is a maternal sister to Major Leroy. I ultrasounded her last week, and she is carrying another Star P Matrix heifer calf as well.
2) an ET March 1 Major Leroy X HC Secret Maid 9N ET heifer. She is also selling in the Fever sale.
3) a March HC Mist's Return 13R heifer out of a Salute Picture Perfect two year old. Her dam is a flushmate to HC Timeline 17T ET x* who sold for $20,000 in our 08 bull sale. This heifer had a 74 lb BW. She sells in the Fever sale.
4) a Major Leroy Shorthorn Plus heifer. She is two generations from a purebred Angus cow. Her dam is a blue roan 3 year old, and this heifer is probably 3/4 of her body weight now. This heifer will be offered in our Oct1-3 " Frozen in Time" online sale. She is super thick.
5) an April Star P Matrix heifer that has been a standout since birth. She will be heading to a new home in Texas later this fall.

I carry a digital camera with me at all times, and I try to take pictures of all the cows so that I have them, when I am trying to sell their offspring. This is good for bull sale time.

A few more pics.... first one is one of the two full sisters to New Beginnings Elsie's Jade. Her name is HC FL Elsie's J-Lo 3T. She is a two year old and has a red neck roan Mist's Return heifer calf at side. She is shown here in pasture condition, so she is proving to be a heifer that can hold together while still growing herself and raising a good calf. As soon as her calf is weaned, she will be heading to the ET center for the winter. The first two flushes are sold to Illinois and Kansas.

Second picture is a Saskvalley Pioneer 126P bull calf. His dam is a first calf Major Leroy heifer, and she is proving that these Leroy's have enough milk, yet stay in condition. This guy is a meat wagon, and as a bonus has a 76 lb BW. The only bad part of being born so easily, is that she calved him in a matter of minutes and his ears were already frozen when I found him a few minutes after she started calving. Mind you it was about -45 F with the wind chill that evening, and even though she calved inside the barn, his ears still froze pretty quickly.

The third picture is a yearling picture of the Leroy daughter who is the dam of the Pioneer calf shown above her. She will be shown at Agribition, in the First Lady futurity, which is a show started this year, for heifers that were shown last year to return again with their calf at foot. He will be almost as big as her by then.

The fourth picture is of a May/09 Star P Matrix heifer calf. This little girl really cooks with gas. I think she is going to be pretty sweet. Haven't decided if she will wear a halter at Agribition or not yet, as she is pretty young. We are planning to be in Denver in January, so she may make it there.

Very Nice cattle, Grant!!  That Cherry Mist female really catches my eye--she looks extremely deepsided and productive.  Great set of cattle overall.

Wish I was free around Thanksgiving so I could come to Agribition--- I'm afraid it will have to be another year.

Good Luck in Regina and Denver---it looks like you should do very well!!

Thanks for the nice comments and thanks also to those who emailed me about our sale offering. I will let you know when the sale catalog is ready.

This summer has been one of the best we have had in many years for our cattle. We were marginal for rain and grass until recently, however it was a cool summer with virtually no fly problems. It is nice to see what these cattle will do when Mother Nature leaves them alone and lets them just do what they are meant to do.

I have posted another couple pictures of Saskvalley Pioneer bull calves out of Prairie Lane Sparkle. These calves are pictured in Scotland and are 5 months old in these pictures. There were also two ET full sibs heifers there as well that were pretty sweet, and I thought they were even better than the  bull calves. I thought I had pictures of them as well, but can't find them right now. We have two solid red Dunbeacon Venture ET calves that were born in August( a bull and a heifer) They both had nice birth weights ( 92 and 94 lbs)and I think they are pretty good. There was another solid red bull that was still born. We will have a Saskvalley Primo X Sparkle calf in October and two Pioneer heifers in January. She is also rebred to calve naturally to Pioneer and has been ultrasounded with a heifer calf in her. I had another Piioneer heifer out of her that I sold last spring to Texas. I also have another daughter in the herd sired by her son, Major Leroy.Because I have these others, and because she will be heading straight to ET after she calves, are the only reasons I agreed to sell the 3 year old daughter. I may decide to offer to purchase 1/2 interest back in her, if the buyer wishes and we joint venture her in ET... I have to decide in the next couple days.
