Look for Kodiak! He or his brothers are there. Calberta Kodiak. DL's bull is from Pine Tree Ranch. You're getting close.

He is not a Calberta bull
He was bred by Pine Tree Rancho in Sask
He was sired by Epinal
born July 30, 1973....

Good job. I am glad you didn't give up. Hope you don't want to kill me. It may not be over quite so soon. Remember we don't know which full brother DL has pictured.
There was a PTR Epic and some PTR Epinal's and even another full brother named Calling View Teton. Which one is it?

Farm Boy, I really do like your bull pictured. Does he have any Epinal x Cette- la  breeding in his Pedigree? You will probably have to go back a number of generations to find out.

Farmboy you wouldn't be using some Paleface genetics would you?  Do you want some older club calf sires pics to guess at (warning they may or may not have character)?

You guys are bringing back memories from the real fuzzy parts of my mind... which some days is most of it!  In the fall of 1973, I spent a few weeks close to The Biench's Pine Tree Rancho at Neilburg, SK so I saw these calves several times. Every time I was there, Roy tried to sell them to me. He would have been a real good door to door salesman as he never gave up, and continued to try to sell them to meon each visit. He started out asking $75,000 for my pick of the bull calves. and a few weeks later offered me all of them for the same $75,000. Here is where the fuzzy part of my memory comes into play. I am not exactly sure if there were 4 ET bulls or 5 of them. I do not remember there being any heifers in this flush but there may have been one... I am not sure. If my memory is correct, I think Epic was the best of them at this young age, and PTR Epinal 83E maybe was the second best. I think they were all called PTR Epinal 80E, 81E, 82E and 84 E.  Epic was 83E.

The Cette-La cow was a tank. She was a little coarse like many of the early Maines were but she had to weigh well over a ton. She was a bit off on her hind wheels too, if my memory is correct.

At the time we were running about 350 cows and we have bred about 100 of our Shorhorn cows to Maine bulls. It was a very good cross and we showed some pretty good steers during this time. We kept all the heifers we produced and bred them up towards purebred status. We found that our fertility dropped with each increase in percentage, so we finally dispersed them in the mid 80s. I think the Maine breed has done amazing improvenment in the past several years and I do not think this is an issue today.
I only have 1 Maine cow here now and she is a full blood female .She was shown at Canadian Western Agribition two years ago and was the only red and white Maine in the show. She went on to be Reserve Grand female. She weighed 2140 lb at the show and had a heifer calf at side that weighed 970 lb. She has a tremendous fullblood heifer on her again this year by Border Creek Future. I weighed her last summer and she weighed 2200 lb. and she is very feminine for a cow this size. Last week I found her in the pasture with a sever stiffle injury. She is still getting around and still feeding her calf well, but her producing years may be over.
