Justintime, That is one awesome story! Thanks for sharing it. I love Maine history especially from the Canadians. They definately have a little different perspective then us Americans. They usually did not except anything less then a hard working cow. Thanks again for sharing.

Farm Boy, How many times can you find Epinal x Cette La in Paleface's pedigree? HEH,HEH,HEH!!!!! If you look back far enough, I think you'll find he's got two shots of that mating.

DL, why do you give us these hard problems to figure out? I don't know if Farm Boy's full brother was correct, but if it wasn't I am going to pick PTR Epinal 81E.

She's dwarfing the people in the picture there...sorry to hear about her injury. I know I was in the Maine barn looking around that year but I don't think I saw her. Unfortunately I couldn't stay to the end of the week for all the shows.

If that is her, she is a really awesome cow and definately earned her placing. That heifer at side is phenomenal....I would love to own one of those good Fullblood females.

Thats her all right! Her name is Hillcrestview Georgia Peach. She is more impressive on pasture.... well she used to be before her injury, and this years heifer calf is a full sister to the heifer pictured at her side. The heifer this year is better in my opinion. Great hunting in finding the picture Genes!
There is a possibility that you may have missed her in the Maine barn as we had 17 head of Shorthorns there as well and someday's it took a few hours to get them all through the wash rack.
Can someone tell me why the Canadian Maine Association is about the only registry that I know of that you can't search pedigrees on the internet? Why is this? To my knowledge, they are the only breed that uses Canadian Livestock Records Corp that does not allow pedigrees to be researched online.

Farm Boy, BLSC Paleface according to pedigree has three shots of the Epinal x Cette-La matings. Two of which are 81E and 83E once. Check it out. You have to go back a number of generations though. Sorry if my clues were misleading, but figured if you got DL's other bull Topper from an obscure TV show from the 50's with a dog, then I needed to make it difficult. There was no googling with this bull. I still don't know which full brother it was? Hope DL doesn't make us guess anymore and just gives us his name and number.

I really do like your bull a lot. His calves tell the story. What breeding is on the dam's side besides Angus.

Sorry Stick, still trying to figure out those big Shorthorns. Wonder if Oh Breeder got it right?

afhm, You are flat out good. I don't know if DL shouldn't give you the grand prize. Hope you give us some of those old time club calf sires to guess.

I do like looking at the old pictures & seeing where out current genetic have come from!

Ayatollah is correct. Any ideas on the four bulls pictured? One was national champion, one Fort Worth champion, one a world champion, and the other, reserve national champion.

Okay, I think I can name some of the bulls that were sired by Ayatollah and were shown in Denver. They were Glenford Ayatollah 2nd, Cactus Flat Ringmaster, Wagonmaster, and Philford Ayatollah. Not sure if the last one I mentioned was in this group or not.

As I recall there were 10 embryos from Epinal x Cette la
8 took
there was 1 heifer (don't remember her name but I am sure I have it somewhere - xxcc probably knows)
5 bulls made it to the big time
80E = PTR Epinal 80E
81E = PTR Epinal 81E
82E = PTR Epinal 82E
83E= PTR Epic 83E aka PTR Epinal 83E
84E= Sundowner Epinal 84E aka PTR Epinal 84E

and Calling View Teton, another full brother and the full sister was PTR Miss Epinal 85E (added by Telos, smart man!)

the pictured bull is 84E

I am not quiet as good as Just in time, but, I do remember him because he was all the rage when i was showing shorthorns in 4-H and FFA in High School. It is crazy how big the cattle were. You don't realize it til you look the pictures like you posted and compare to today. Also the rear quarters were so weak on the shorty's then. They really liked them flat made and tall. I was looking at his pedigree and it surprises me that there are only 45 registered animals from him. If I have the right Ayatollah.

well, 2 down 2 to go. Glenford Ayatollah 2nd, and Cactus Flat Ringmaster are correct. Ayatollah 2nd measured 63.5 inches and weighed 2560 lbs. He was the national champion. Ringmaster was the '84 world show champion and weighed 2660 at Denver in '86.
One of the last 2 bulls had some famous full sisters and at least one full brother, might have even been flush mates.
