Nebraska State Fair

Was just wondering what some other peoples oppinions of moving the Nebraska State Fair to G.I. was.  There were a lot of feelings one way or another.  What are some of sp members?

A great idea ,the GI people acted like they want it , it was just something in the way at Lincoln ,nothing gets the attention the Huskers get in Lincoln an that might be a good thing .  G.I. is more cental located ,especially to the cattle people , if any thing is going to stimulate the interest in displaying livestock again this sure won't hurt , the trend is to go to a breeders place to buy stock now rather than going to the shows where the smaller breeders go ,most people now have there own opinion of what they prefer rather than what the judge picks, our cattlemen are a lot better educated an some times see things going on at the show's they dont like to see ....Sounds like one fantastic facility an will be great to have the young exhibitors along with open class cattle ......With that facility an some interest in making it work there proably will be some National Junior shows hosted in Nebraska ....

It has been a lot of years since we have shown at Neb. State Fair, but I would much prefer being in Grand Island than Lincoln.  Just my personal preference!

Great deal....I think livestock numbers will certainly increase since it is so much closer for at least 1/2 the state....

Good luck to Nebraska on this new endeavor.  I hope you develope the kind of fair an ag state deserves.  We are soooooo fortunate in Iowa to have the support all levels of our state fair and hope this grows to that level for our neighbors to the west!

Starting with the topnotch climate controlled facilities, location and beer gardens by the barns.  Looking forward to it.

Like Freddy said,  it's about time Nebraska is considered for Junior National shows.  They should be now.

Tony is right on about getting some Jr. Nationals there.  What a great way to promote the facilities, and draw new people to the Nebraska State Fair.  It would be in the best interest of G.I. to cut some good lease deals with the Jr. Associations.  The potential of bringing more out-of-state cattle to the State Fair would more than make up for it.  It's been a long time since I have last shown at the Nebraska State Fair, but sounds like we need to consider it again.

Looking forward to using these awesome facilities.

It will be interesting to see the attendance numbers and how they compare to the attendance in Lincoln.  I tend to think that the Tri-Cities and western Nebraska will do a good job in supporting the fair in Grand Island. As for the ag aspect of the fair I think moving it west to a centralized place was a no brainer.  It will be exiciting to see how it comes off this year.

this is second hand knowledge from a person who tourred the area ( he was a state breed rep)....

The facilities are awesome, the barns are similar to those at Iowa State Fair, the flat roof on the side and the peak in the middle, that will allow heat to rise up and out the windows. also there are/will be large ceiling fans installed ( similar to those at Northeast Community College's Ag barn in Norfolk, Nebraska) . was also told there will be a bar in the middle of the cattle barn with live entertainment nightly--- this comes from someone telling them "people will be drinking in the barn, just better to try to get some revenue then abolish it" -- so maybe the issues of being able to walk around with a beer in hand are resolved??
i guess the biggest problem comes with getting your tack and stuff to the stall, someone said it could be like NWSS where someone loads there stuff on a trailer and a tractor takes it to the stall, also was told that maybe that this is being ran by a local FFA chapter..... or its a long haul with a cart, dunno if they will be allowing a truck and trailer to drive down the wide middle alley- doesn't seem like it. 
also for those that like to bring a grill or smoker-- doesn't seem like a very good spot close to the barn or stalls to accomplish this unless some parking stalls are commandeered. I didn't here much about tie-outs except that they are a long walk away ( my reply was 'well so is Iowa state fair') and also there is a road to cross to get there??- this is where he was breaking up and was all i got.

i think it will be a more Ag related fair and look forward to seeing the show, wish i had time this summer to get a string of heifers put together but no avail...
if i get more info, i'll post info
