my sons heifer needs to be cleaned up a little . Been told to get e neck sweat. Any suggestions? Looked online Sullivans has a few different choice but not sure which type is best. There are the traditional leather and wool sweats and then there are the neoprene sweats. Id one better than the other? If so which one ?

I would go with the leather... they are higher priced but alot more durable.
I still have one of my leather neck sweats from the late 80's.  Could use it tomorrow.  We raised Simmental and they always needed a little cleaning up.  I left those sweats on 24 hours a day from the time they were big enough to wear them until the time they were sold or turned out to pasture.  The wore them tied up, in their pen or turned out at night,  I used neoprene neck sweats on my show horses.  You can rinse them, use sweating agents, etc, but they would tear, stitching would come apart, etc... If you're in your final years of showing, do the neoprene, cheaper and you can use those agents or make your own.  But if you want to use it all the time and have it around for many years, go with the leather.  They're more comfortable for the animal to wear long term and hold up real well.

We use the Weaver Leather Livestock leather neck sweat with black flex foam liner and absolutely love it! The foam keeps in the heat for a good sweat, but the best part is the channels that collect the dirt. It's super easy to clean with a brush or you can remove the liner and spray it with a hose. Here's a link to the neck sweat online:  http://goo.gl/dQn81.

Thanks for the opinions. I still have my old neck sweat from 20 years ago but got to looking on Sullivans website and Weavers and saw the new ones and just wondered if they were any better. Sounds like its time to oil up my old leather sweat and put it to work.

Definitely go leather. Tried the new style this year with my daughters laid back hereford heifer. In two weeks she had it shredded. Decided to scratch caught it on a rough edge and that was the end of it. Went back to the leather and no problems since.

The black heat from sullivans is a stouter made neoprene but the best thing to do is cover it to protect with the leather collar.
