I have a hello of a steer that I'm taking to my fair this year. We took.him to get his feet trimmed aweek ago and ever since he hasn't been walking good at all. His front legs won't bend ahe just  stumbles around. My show is in two weeks. Any advice would be wonderful..

Exercise on soft ground will do him some good. It is like you trim your fingernails too short. Imagine how that feels. If his feet were really long then the tendons need to tighten back up and it will take him a few days to get back to normal. Although, I have seen calves trimmed too short and there is nothing you can do but hope they get use to it by show time. I don't know that the hoof trimmer is the problem if the feet were really long. Was this the first time he had his feet trimmed? Is this someone you have used before?

I would keep him locked up in a pen bedded with straw and each day slowly walk him somewhere on grass. Does he have any lumps near his front shoulders or legs? Next time I'd get there hooves trimmed earlier in the year when you have more time til the show

As a rule of thumb you need to trim regularly or no less than one month before a show to avoid this type of situation. I agree with Oh Breeder's advice. Exercise on soft ground and time.

I don't know where you are located but next time i would use a different trimmer. Joe Lit is the best IMO in eastern ohio i know he goes to indiana and michighan to trim for people and he has trimmed for a lot of big time steers and heifers.

I would say Ron Routan is the best in Ohio, been doing it forever had a lot of major champions go on his table

thanks for the help guys. our foot trimmer is very good and we havent ever had this problem with him. this was the steers first foot trimming and he is just very tender i think. we have him in soft bedding where he can walk around as he pleases. he is beginning to walk better on the soft surface but when he gets on anything hard he stiffens back up. anybody know if i can get any pills or shot or anything to speed up the healing process???

We made the mistake of trimming our steers to close to our fair last year.  We never did get them toughened up before our fair and it was a bit of a nightmare.  The old horse guys in our area suggested to use turpentine on the bottoms of their feet.  Just spray it on.  We used it religiously and it didn't really seem to help.  One other thing is our steers got to where they would walk well at home, but then they spent a few days walking on the rocks and sand of the fair grounds and they were sore as heck.  If I am not mistaken it sounds like you are to close to your end show to use any sort of injectable, but maybe call your vet and check.  Good luck.
