First off I would like to say thanks to everyone on here.  I read the posts every night and have learned quite a bit from some people on here.

Ok now for a problem I cant figure out.. we have 3 steers that we are feeding for an Sept. fair and we weigh the calves in in Dec.  from the weigh in to end of January Steer # had a 3.2 ADG,  Steer #2 3.7 ADG, and Steer #3  3.48 ADG.

We didn't change anything except for the amount of feed that we feed to the steers and  when we weighed on a week ago steer #1 and 2 are still going strong steer # 3 in the last couple of weeks quite cleaning his feed up..  He will eat hay like nothing else and when we lead them outside and stop to talk and he eats grass like crazy..... His exercise is good and he is not sunk in or anything.  He just won't eat his grain. I can barely get him to eat 4lbs in morning and 4 pounds in evening.  The other steers are eating 10lbs at both feedings. I have been giving him probias twice a month but doesn't seem to be working with him.

What would make him go off grain like that but still very active likes to eat hay and grass.  In evening when we let them out they chase and head butt and all kinds of play.  Has anyone else ever had one of these steers and if so What did you do with it..(I thought about trying 911 emergency paste...Has anyone else used this)

Thanks for all suggestions! Just thought I would ask if anyone else has experienced tthis

Sorry that you are going through this.  This is very frustrating I know, we have had a steer this year do the same thing.  It is a hard one to understand when they act normal in every other way, but will not eat or finish up their grain.  Where are you from, because we got ours to Dr. Gary Warner and he gave him some good "rumen bugs" through a transfer from a donor cow.  We slowly worked him back up on his feed and he is doing great right now.  He is actually gaining around 5 Lbs. a day, with 22 days until we show.  Good luck and keep us posted!!  Lisa

when was the last time the steers were dewormed? give them some ivermect or cydectin, when i start working with my calves its one of the things i do right when they are started on a good ration so if they quit eating i know it is probably not b/c they weren't dewormed

We live in northeast Ohio, and as far the last time they were wormed was a couple weeks ago.  We worm on a regular basis.

Thank you again for your help and advice..

Has anyone tried the 911 emergency paste?  I have heard that it is used for gut ache, stress, heat  mold and many other things.... If you have used it please let me know if it kicked them back in shape better than probias.

Thanks again.
