We've had a couple more new arrivals at Oakbar in the last couple of days.  Some of you have asked questions about JPJs and our Tonic/Charmer cross this year so I thought I'd post a couple of pics.  The first is the Tonic calf--he's a little over in his front legs yet but he's tearing around like crazy so as his legs strengthen he should be fine.  The little all red heifer is a JPJ out of our TonicXCF Carmele heifer that was born yesterday around noon.  The wild colored calf is the one I put on a couple of days ago on the blue roan thread.  She's a Who Made Who out of our Pretender cow.

Are the 2 JPJ's out of heifers Lynn? I couldn't help noticing how wide the WMW stands and how thick she looks. Nice calves. Brent

Hey CAB,

Yes both my JPJs are out of heifers.  The heifer above as is listed and the bull calf we got on Feb. 1st out of a Centurion  X CF Ten Queens heifer.

Both were very vigorous calves weighing between 75-80 pounds and are all red in color.  I sold a 100 Solutions bred heifer that was bred on the same day to JPJ.  They got a solid red bull calf a couple of days ago and were very pleased with him.

The wild colored heifer's mother(Pretender) is a second calf cow.

Thanks for your interest!!

Lynn

I like all the different color combinations you get. I bet that can be fun. That WMW is sure a stout looking little thing. Great job for heifers so far if you ask me!

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone!!  We just got another heifer calf this afternoon out of our Xbred clubby cow and Dr. Who.  Surprisingly, to me at least, she's all red with a little white on her belly, one foot, and the very tip of her tail.  The cow is black with a white udder so I guess I was kind of expecting a black calf--obvously there's red genes in there somewhere.  This same cow was bred to Who Made Who last year and produced a heifer that was black but had a couple of white spots on her body, a white patch on the inside of her upper front leg, and a complete ring around her tail about 4-5 inches from the end.  I guess I didn't expect that either!!

I was also surprised to have a lot of red and red/white calves out of Dr. Who.  We have also had quite a few red Witch Dr. calves over the years, so that must be where it comes from.  Our 70 cow herd is predominantly black, only 3 or 4 red cows.  On the Who Made Who, I have always heard he is homozygous black, and we have always had black calves from him.  Maybe some unusual white markings, or brownish tinted baby hair, but they all end up being black factor.  Really nice Who heifer, by the way!

Lynn.... the calves look very good. I am sure you will have lots of enjoyment watching them develop over next few months. To me, that is one of the nice parts of this business.
