Is he sound? Can he walk? That's the question.

Want to guess as to the TH status of this bull? Perhaps they are continuing their diabolical plan to destroy all cattle as we know it by bringing carriers into the gene pool. Are you going to contact the authorities or should I? Maybe we can get the senate to pass a bill loaded with pork that properly addresses this issue. Neat calf but I bet when they video him they avoid his feet...... <cowboy>

If you will be able to tell that soon, you need to toss your hat into the bull promoting business. I'll wait awhile on this one.

Looks to me that he is big shouldered, tight hearted, shallow flanked and no lower quarter. But that's why he has hair.

I see a bull prospect I want to watch and learn more about him. From the picture above I want to evaluate to see if I can genetically match him on any of my cows.  I don't raise cattle for the show ring as a hobby.  If I can raise show steers that look like that.  I will make a lot of money.

One day, Just maybe one day some people will realize that there is a major difference between commerical and show cattle. Today it is a sterotype that if your in the show cattle business, You are a cheat and your cattle suck as cows. Lets talk about you commerical guys for a second, I have often thought this and thought I would share even though I know I will piss people off. Number one is the Angus people. Oh how I love you guys. Certified Angus beef  (lol) has to be the most successful marketing GIMMICK to the public of all time.  75% black-hided and meet a certain ribeye and boom got a certified angus beef. Which means half this mut show cattle, as long as they would meet the ribeye (doubtful but possible) they are certified angus beef. Along with the other 100 black-hided type cattle. Then comes EPD'S. My favorite thing ever. These commerical producers are aways talking about EPDS. Well thats just great, IF YOU ARE HONEST ABOUT THEM. Number one, I feel EPDS should be listed as EPD/midwest. EPD/Southwest EPD/North. why? Because the midwest have a hell of a lot more grass and crops then the southwest. next how aout EPD/Creep feed. I think its complete B.S that you guys creep feed as much as the clubby guys and then turn around and give the cow and the bull credit for it like the cow did it purely off of her milking and excellent genetics. By far the best Angus cow I ever had, had a milk EPD of 9. 9!!!!!!!! Thats when I decided that EPD'S were estimated for a reason, because hardly anyone is honest with them! I had an angus cow with a milk EPD a few years ago of 26 and the darn cow could feed a mouse. Next comes the 205 and weight. If a commerical guy is running 150 head of cattle and you weigh every calf at 205 days at a different time I commend you. I know plenty of guys around my area that weigh all there cattle at the same time. Do you think that guy in montana who runs 500 head weighs them all exactly at 205? each calf? what about those ones he weighs 2 weeks late that have put on another 40 pounds? Don't that make your EPDS wrong? My point is, I get so sick and tired of getting on this website and other websites and listening to these commerical and seedstock producers bash the clubby guys. You are on the complete opposite side of the industry. You sell your calves for market price. Clubby people own 1/4 of the cows and make 1/4 more than you if they do it right. Most of these shows have 250-500 head per weekend. Some people spend months on the road trying to find a calf for their child just to win its stinking class. Clubby cattle aren't meant to go out on a 10,000 acre ranch not be seen for months and wean off a 600 pound calf. The same way that commerical cattle  that are fine-boned, rugged skelton, slick-sheared shouldn't ever see a show ring. WHY? Because thats not what they are bred to do. Do you think some of the people in Florida rip the people in Antartica because they can't grow fruit like they do? Its because they aren't supoosed too. I have never once got on here and ripped a commerical breeder nor animal because that end of the spectrum doesnt apply to me. If you (as a commerical guy) dont think a clubby bull like Texas Tornado will produce or make it, well thats great but I bet he sells as much or more semen than your commerical bull. You aren't in this end of the industry, therefore you don;t understand like the clubby guy does and vise-versa. My friend runs commerical charolais cattle and decided he would show. He even got his butt kicked at the local fair and he has the old school french bloodlines that are real stout. He asked me why he got his butt kicked and I told him something that someone once told me, You either want to have Showcattle or you want commerical. There is no in between. If you are trying that then you are limiting your success in one of the two fields. Instead of bashing this bull, I feel we should commend and give a hand to Bull Owners like Matt Lautner, Phil Lautner, Wade Rodgers, Trausch, Tracy, because they spend all year every year on the road trying to find the next great one for the producer . I don't spend as much time on the road as they do. I thank them because of them My program has grew and been better because they are able to provide us with the best genetics out there for SHOW CATTLE. So I will leave you with this, "Please realize that there is two types of cattleman, the show and the commerical. They are complete opposites. One is a hobby and one provides the world with food. Do not bash the other end of the spectrum. Instead shut up if you don't understand and try to learn."

Just so you know the 205 d weight is used in a formula and is adjusted so that you can weigh the calves at anytime and plug the weight and their age in days into a formula and it spits out and ADJUSTED weight for that calf at 205 days to put all the calves at an even playing field and i will agree that there are probably a lot of people that do lie a little bit on their weights and such, but at the same time you have to be semi-honest when dealing with them because a lot of commercial producers base a lot of their decisions on that animals epd and if they find that the epds on the calf they bought aren't right do you think they will be a customer in the future? You sure do get on the commercial and seedstock guys in your rant but there is so much dishonesty in the the show cattle business too. How many March calves in a show ring are actually Februarys?

I'm not bashing fuzzy animals at all, there is nothing better than a sound functional animal with good hair. I just don't think there I a sound enough package under his hair, not bashing the owners, breeders or promoters of him, just giving my opinion like the original post asked

not with 5 inches of hair you can't...

but, the ability to read structure, with angles and flexibility- and use that with prior knowledge is what seperates the men from the boys...  or in your case-- the cowboys, from the cowgirls...
