No we haven't taken her out ( she was behaving a bit crazy) and we didn't feel it was safe for either our child or other participants.  She has come a long way, and hopefully our county fair (mid October) will get her enough experience before the Texas majors and next summer.  How about you?  We would love to hear crticism/ comments on her.

We took her out one time, we knew she was way to green to place, and we were right. He just flat out said she was to green, but he talked a lot of good about her. Brians sister and her kids were down there as well,  and so was the KSSR Surprise heifer.  I am not sure if you have seen their heifers in person, but if you have, you know that you have something to really look forward to!! Our flush has a lot of potential, the Dream on X ashley is a stout combo, and I think the extra cow power from Star Power has given them even more potential. Both of our calves just need more time on feed before they really bloom and start doing what they were bred to do, not to long from now. PM with some shows your thinking of hitting up, and if we are close  or are going we could meet up!!

Sorry it took so long.  This is our flushmate to your heifer (born 1-03-09)  Star Powerx KSSR Ashley.  These pictures were taken early August.  She is wet and upset because she hates new experiences.  Never posted pics here before so sorry if it is wrong.
I thought flip flops in the barn were a big no-no, a accident waiting to happen.

Yes, I know that flip flops are a no no, but do you have a 16 year old?  She did learn the hard way.  Luckily no serious damage to her foot, and she is wearing appropriate footwear now!

Be anxious to see how these heifers develop....Hope they do well for you.  These heifers being out of a good mother should only help the equation.

Now Star Power...best I could say is that the jury is still out.  I won't comment on any others opinions of the bull...just my own (several others have been posted on this board), but our remaining semen will stay put in the tank.  Our S.P.'s are below average in our herd; very surprised as he was used on some darn good cows, and, with his lineage, I would have thought that he would've been almost a "can't miss."

TMJ,

Understand your comment.  We'll all seen a great pictured one be "just average" when view in person.

However, many good cattle men also saw this bull (in person) and thought that he was, in fact, THE REAL DEAL.

I am sure confused by how he is breeding though.  I'm think it's more than just a freshman slump.  Shoot, we even left the SP-sired embryos in the tank this last spring!

Will be interesting to see what happens with him in the next couple calf crops.  There have been some good ones out of him, but he was bred to some of the best females in the country.

I was going into his pastures thinking of all the bad things said about star power, and the not so great cattle he has produced...lets just say I was more than impressed with these calves when we laid eyes on them.. The cows he flushes are very soggy made, stout boned, THICK, super correct, and just all around good females, they have won there fair share of shows. He knows what works on his cows, and he hasnt made a mistake yet it seems. It looks like star power needs to be used on the right cow to get the good offspring. Winners are bred, champions are fed! I guess its better late than never to get star power ball rolling, and I would be more than happy to give it a push. Only time will tell as to what they will turn into..

thanks for all the comments, keep them coming!!!

We will have her at San Antonio and Houston (skipping Fort Worth due to school conflicts) in the near future.  Our county fair is Brazoria in October which usually has 100+ breeding beef projects.

We are in galveston county, so we will make it your jr show, and then we will be showing in the open!! Good luck, brians calves have been supreme a few different times out there. We are hitting Ft. Worth hard, then San antonio, the super bowl( brians calves are eligible) which is associated with the SALE, we are local to houston so we will be going to open( yay for fitting) and Jr, state fair( maybe she isnt quite there yet), and if that isnt happening we might go to the star of texas( maybe even that instead of houston Jr.) and then county in april...and various TCCA shows. We are pretty stacked! Good luck at county next month, if im not mistaken its the largest in texas.

Do I understand correctly... you are coming to Brazoria county for the jr breeding beef and open?  If so, we will be in the Pearland FFA area.  It would be neat to see those to heifers side by side because when I saw the first pictures of yours I thought it was ours!!!  Yes, the show is usually pretty competitive.  We were reserve a couple of years ago to one of Brian's that won the whole thing. (Shown by one of the Pate kids if I recall correctly).
