My youngest daughter is going to show her second steer this year.  She is 9.  We showed a steer last year, but he thought he was a dog and wasn't finished well, needless to say he didn't do very well for her, he was pushy and kept trying to eat all the flowers around the arena, but he was free so we did the best we could.  This year we purchased a steer calf from my dad and are going to try again.  Brought him home today.  He is an angus Herford cross, 75% angus. I think he looks good. We just brought him hom today and I think it will take a while for him to settle and relax, but he did let us brush him some.  We currently have him in with a little Angus heifer that we have and he seems to be settling nicely.  My question is this, last year we used a calf grower feed for our steer and it did not much.  I am putting this calf on Purina Finishing Touch show feed to start with.  He is probably 700#.  Is this a good feed? My local feed store is ordering it in special and has never tried it before.  I want a feed to keep him gaining.  He has only been on Corn Oats chop, but because my parents farm is at the bottom of a very steep hill and they have 75 acres of really great pasture, their animals look great and grow great.  I just don't want him to loose weight.  Any help would be appreciated.

we use a grower until they are around 850, just be sure you are increasing the amount of feed, to gain you usually want to feed around 2-3% of their body weight.  So right now he should be getting at least 15 lbs a day.
