I have both Oster Clipmaster, and Lister stablemate for large clippers. My vote would be for Lister. They are what gets used more our our place - just seems easier to handle for my daughterand myself. They do well for us - just wish the blades wre a little less expensive.

I have completely worn out a few sets of Oster Shearmasters over the years when I used to do a lot of custom clipping. That was what I was used to and stuck by them.

A few years ago I switched and bought a set of Heiniger clippers.

They are maybe a bit heavier? But run quieter, cooler and far more powerful than the Oster or Sunbeam models.

They were more money but if you use them a lot, I would say a better investment. One thing that some people miss over the Oster clipper is the variable speed option but I always run them full throttle anyways.

I have a PREMIER 4000C. It is a Very good clipper and runs exceptionally quiet compared to the oster and listers. I would reccomend them to anyone. Now they are a little pricey, however, you get what you pay for !!!!

I just got a pair of used premier sheepheads from sullivans and i am tempted to block legs with them cause they are just so quiet. But if you don't get the beveled blades (which i didn't get with them) you could be shearing off some of the skin if you arent careful!

For trimming heads I really like the Andis clippers. They are so quiet for big clippers. When doing some of the young calves for the first time we don't have near the problem as we did with the Oster's. They are quiet as scarey monsters that are going to eat them.

I go through clippers/ shearers like anyone wouldn't imagine...  I think right now in my case I have 4 sets of Osters- 3 Andis- and a set of Premier 4000's: o, and don't forget about the two pairs of OLD Sunbeams...

Best hands down-- Andis... worst in a huge Fashion.. Premier...

This takes into account purchase price, pure power, easy of maintenance, and built to last.

lets just say, other than a bad cord on the Andis-- I've never fixed a thing...  the Osters will wear out after a couple years if you use them hard atleast once a week, and the premiers... well lets just say.. you'll be lucky to use the once a week for a  month.

I've had the first pair of Andis for four years.. used atleast once a week in that time period on average, got the second pair the year after, and the third pair about 6 months after that...

PS>  They've even outlasted my shaft shearers-- which are supposed to last forever...

I sent the junker premiers back 4x the first year I had them, and 5x the second year... that's when they told me that my warranted was no longer good-- and so I basically quit using them.  I did get them out once while we were in Louisville trimming last fall-- and the second time flipping the switch-- spun out the PLASTIC drive shaft.. AGAIN>

My brother won a set of Andis Premier's in his dairy showmanship competition last year.  We used em to slick some dairy show calves, and they were real, real quite- didn't get a rise out of even our flightiest heifers- and they stay cool.  Also very light, the only disadvantage to them is the blade is SUPER wide.  Not sure if that can be changed with a new set of blades?  I just get the clippers handed to me and I go to town  ;D
