Opinions of my kid's steer, please......

Here's a couple pictures of my son's shorthorn.  Let me know what you think.....  he's gonna need some groceries, but we think he might turn into a show calf.

Well, here's the short of it. He's got some quarter muscle, some gut, and a decent front end. His toes look like they all point the same way, but that look down his top is a bit rough. However, I'd pour the corn to him and get him fat, as in F-A-T, fat. Covers a multitude of wrongs.  ;D

Decent calf with plenty of room to grow, His top line does look suspect but with his head in the feeder it is hard to see the true calf. I will bet he will pack on some weight and make a good fat steer. He does look to have a little more shoulder than I like. But again with his head up it may change his whole appearance.

I've gotta come clean, the first set of pictures I posted of my son's steer were from October.  I fudged a bit. :  I had a pretty good idea the steer would fatten up easily, and he has.  Here is a picture of my boy's calf this last Monday at our county premium sale.  He was champion shorthorn.  My 9 year old son has absolutely worked his tail off with this calf, and I couldn't be more proud.  This was my son's 3rd show, and I really thought the kid did a great job showing his calf.  The winning bidder in the premium sale said she came back to bid on him, because she remembered how well he handled his steer during the show.  What more can a dad ask for?

Nice.  So proud for him!  Hard work pays off.

That boy turned out pretty good. GREAT profile pic. Looks like his finish was almost perfect. Really like him.
