If anyone shuts down people using lethal genetic defects......it will be a humane society of somekind. The average lifespan of a purebred herd is 7 years. So there are alot of ignorant newcomers that bid on cattle all the time.......they aren't real savy on genetic matters untill they have shot their load of money. Then they sell out.....easy money......easy scam. There are so many 17 year old kids get screwed.......and they don't even know it.......it could be argued that the junior association.......is on the loosing side of a huge money rip off scheme. They are told.......aw the genetic defect deal is no big deal.......in four years they will be pregnant and no longer a "leader" in the beef industry. There is a reason that the industry will most likely consider the Shorthorn breed a zoo breed.......and club calf shows of today......are on the same level as Alpaca's.......as far as their relevence to the beef industry. Its not right or wrong.....but it is a fact. I have heard that a few herds have sold out....with a decent return.....and I assume they may start up with TH,PHA, and DS free cattle. Thats kinda where alot of herds are.....right now......especially with the acknowledge of the DS defect.

I'm pretty sure one can dis-improve, which would be a verb, as in I disapprove of dis-improving.
Dis-improved would be the adjective.
Dis-improval would be a noun, I think.

DISIMPROVER would  be a pronoun, like a name for a bull.

Man......I kinda reread this thread......I kinda forgot what all happened in the DS discovery drama. Jammiediamond and her father and the girl friend Thunder down under and frostbite fought tried to fight and keep the deal silent on public boards. Then the culprit of DS ended up being the old 1972 bull improver. Would it be legal to print this thread and sell it as a book?

Once again you are wrong. If you look at his pedigree on the ASA website they only have him listed as a carrier of 1 defect. We know that is wrong and he is a carrier of TH , also. Not 4 defects.
I wish I had a good picture of him over my mantle. He was an awesome cow maker.

Deerpark Improver is listed as DSC, but it does not say he is THF or PHAF. However, if you look further into the ASA database, there is a bull by the name of Deerpark Improver 57, who is listed as DSF, PHAF, THC, who is sired by Deerpark Improver 19th, who has no DNA on file, who is sired by Deerpark Improver 2nd, who is DSF but not listed as THF or PHAF, who is sired by Deerpark Improver, mentioned above. So it all depends on which Deerpark Improver you are talking about... And why would they bother testing a 43 year old bull for DS, without also testing for TH and PHA? Until the bull is tested for TH, we don't KNOW that he is a carrier, we can just make assumptions.

Deerpark Improver is THC. He is also PHAF. I don't know why the original list didn't get transferred over from the old website to this new system. Improver 2nd (Guiness) is THF.

Not familiar with monkey mouth. Is this an identified or confirmed genetic defect yet? Are they testing for it? Or, are you suggesting this is a condition affecting Shorthorn breeders and not their cattle AJ?

There is a "monkey breath" in the Shorthorn breeder population. Monkey mouth is a calf with a under bite....? Maine Anjou deal carried to Shorthorns.

monkey mouth, brought in by who? cunia? to which shorthorn population?

i was thinking you had monkey breath when you took that TH carrier bull to denver and was thinking of spreading it from your breeder population to unsuspecting other breeder populations.

really AJ, get a clue. why do you continue to criticize people for things you did?

AJ, you are the one worthy of study.  for years, you railed on people using carriers.

yet you took one to denver.

you continue to rail on people yet you produce NOTHING.

you claim your interest in purebreds or fullbloods, yet you do nothing but crossbreed.

really AJ, your inability to look at yourself is worthy of study by yourself and no one else.

no one else needs any study on the matter.

you are the one that needs help.

please get it.

praying won't help.

i don't oppose you. i merely point out your hypocrisy. i do however oppose railing on people for using carriers, and then taking one to denver. you yourself have said this was bad, but only if others do it.

go ask a psychiatrist for some help on saying one thing and doing another, expecting others to do what you want and making absolutely no effort to do it yourself.  this is a well worn path that psychiatrists understand.  they can help you.
