Just wanted to give you any EARLY UPDATE on the first three P2C calves born....1 bull and 2 heifers......out of Potter cows....65#, 76#,77#.  I've attached a picture of the three.  They're all out of Simmental cross cows.

The reason I bought and promoted this bull was NOT because I felt he was the next Heat Seeker/Wave.....BUT, because of the way he was BUILT and BRED.....FOR CALVING EASE and MATERNAL quality.  I want that next GREAT....TRUE.....CALVING EASE bull that will be around for 10 years.....not advertised that way to sell semen his first year (never did get why ANYONE would trust a bull that had NEVER sired a calf yet for calving ease!)

Now, I KNOW......three calves does NOT make a calving ease bull...BUT......the calves are MADE the way I hoped (according to P2C's phenotype) and the birthweights have definitely been friendly for being out of mature cows after as TUFF a WINTER as we've had.

I'll continue to give updates the more we get....both good and bad...if there is any.  Will have several coming out of bred heifers.

I think it's interesting that P2C's dam, granddam and great granddam are ALL BALDIES.......and the first three calves born at Potter's are ALL BALDIES!

Thats cool you put an update on him and letting everyone know how the calves are coming and what they are looking like, most bull owners wont do that. Congratz on the first calves the birth weights are awesome, and they look like neat little calves!!!  (thumbsup)

Like the pictures Mr Hook. They look like screen savers.  Be great to see them up and about.

I have never understood that either!
I think it is great you (bulls owner) are updating the bulls use and progress. Thanks, I like hearing things "from the horses mouth!!"

I think if he keeps siring baldies that have the "look" of that bull along with the bw of those three he will do well better than his sire. I sure did like the Star power calves after we got them out of the cow.

Yeah,  that's the deal.....the first year Star Power was used, Tolle told me the only complaints about the calves were how small they were.....evidently not the case the next year, BUT, breeders swear by his sire, Dream On's calving ease.  Then you go deeper into P2C's pedigree you get a shot of WHO, BANDO, and Black Destiny, ALL of which were realitively dependable calving ease sires.

Bottom line is......it's about 60% the cow and how she's managed from a feed and calving barn aspect in my opinion.....As long as the bull will give you half a chance out of the gate.

Brad do you have any updated pictures of P2C? I don't judge cattle by pictures alone but would like to soften him up a tad, from what his pictures suggest. he sure seems to be sound and appears to have adequate muscle shape. There are some good simmy"s around but I haven"t been fortunate enough to see any Star Power calves that will trip any triggers. I hope P2C works out , he is the best SP I've seen.

About the picture of P2C......he pee'd at LEAST 15 times while we were getting him ready......I put a pee pan underneath him to catch it, and RIGHT whenever we were done and getting ready to paint, he got impatient and stepped on the pan of pee and dumped it all over him, me, Sandeen, the chute and ANYTHING ELSE in a 5 mile radius!!!

Needless to say.....I was MAD.....HE was MAD and I got him out of the chute and to the picture pen as quickly as I could......SO,.....he was about as EMPTY as he could possibly be in that picture....which with his rib shape....he REALLY DIDN't need to be.

If you'll watch him in the video you'll see his TRUE rib shape....NOT OHLDEish....BUT, not a wreck either.  If you are PICTURE ANALYZING.....it IS where you want to change him., BUT, it's actually kind of WHY I bought him!!!  He should be a SOW BELLY'd, PLAIN FRONTED, AVERAGE HAIRED looking bull if you were picturing in your mind from his pedigree.....BUT....HE's NOT.  This is what INTRIGUED me so much about this one.  ANYTIME you get one that doesn't look like the way he's bred.....he's usually going to be a CHANGER!

I also wanted him for a "GO TO" calving ease sire.....and it seems like the more "Streamlined" the calf can be made, for ease of EXITING, the better off EVERYONE is.  Someone told me once...."A bowling ball only weighs 16#, but could a cow have one?"

He's maturing nicely, and I'm planning on getting some spring pictures if he's in good enough shape.  I might be barking up the wrong tree on this one, but I've learned to listen to my gut.  Anytime a Simmental sired bull looks like a Heat Seeker x Full Flush......he bares watchin'!
