I'm looking into how much it would cost to have a few of my cows fed and calved out for me this winter. They would be kept from now until about a month after calving (they'd calve in mid February). Keep in mind that I live in Canada so they eat a lot more in the winter here than they would in the south. If anyone has any numbers they can give me that would be great! If you need anymore info let me know.

I'm just going to throw out a number and say $3-$6 per head per day. Probably on the high side.

When we have boarded to have embryo work done it is $5 a day. That is with or without a calf. That is also some of the best care out there. Also I watched cattleman to cattlemen last night on rfd and the expert pannel said to plan on $3 a day minimum per cow to winter this year as a figure to work with. Since you are in canada I would expect a little more plus you are asking them to take care and calve them so its going to be worth a bit more.

Seems it would depend heavily on your hay cost.  Cheap Canadian hay ($120/ton) should be a couple of dollars a day plus some amount for yardage.  If they are just on pasture with minimal effort, would shoot for $20 per head per month or less in addition to hay cost.  For $6.00 per day I could have the hay trucked to Wyoming and put your cows up for you for the winter and calve them out too as long as they aren't bred to Heatwave.  ;)

$200 a ton hay figuring 30#s a day per head on the low side is $3 a day just for hay. That's average hay price around here. Going rate here is around $5 a day. Includes hay, mineral, and calving out.
